About This Club

To discuss everything that annoys us.
  1. What's new in this club
  2. its due to the shear amount of traffic now and the driving standard i have see/experienced i have hard wired a dash cam to mine and the wife's car. i dont drive a lot now thank god (especially in winter / dark nights), i used too thousands of miles a year in the 80 and 90s and it was getting bad then but i never had a accident , few close calls but never involved or caused one that i know !. it was only last week after a hospital visit on the m62/M1 link i nearly got wiped out by a woman in a igo just changing lanes , no looking just i want to be there , i have the video evidence ! she was completely oblivions and completely blanked me when i drew level to adviser her of her of her mistake now my only worry is driving the weekend cars , the cortina and hotrod , to be honest my heart was in my mouth last time drove the hotrod a couple of weeks back as had not done so for like 12 months . deano ps just joined GOMC
  3. I've noticed that there are a lot of folk driving at night with just their side lights on. They probably think it's cool because they're in a city which is reasonably well lit but why wouldn't you want to be as visible as possible. Other thing that annoys me is drivers parked up safely at the side of the road with their hazards on or their left indicator. You're not a hazard and you're not turning left
  4. I totally agree with you. Today I was driving down a dual carriageway on the inside lane doing about 50 mph ,within the speed limit. A “bint” was slowly plodding down the outside lane totally oblivious to what was going on around her and merrily talking to her passenger ( they were both quite animated waving their hands about in the car). As I was closing in on her she made no effort to pull into the inside lane just kept on going along in the outside lane. After about 1/4 mile and with other vehicles building up behind me I started flashing my lights to get her to react and move in. Still in a state of total ignorance she continued at her own pace. I gently moved back into the near side lane and undertook her. Guess what happened next? A friendly MR PLOD was driving an unmarked car in the traffic that had built up behind me and when I undertook the “bint” he took great pleasure in pulling me over and gave me a very stern lecture about illegal manoeuvres on the highway. I pointed out the reason why I had done what I did and his response was that I needed to have more patience and be more tolerant of other road users. It’s an effing joke. Fortunately I didn’t get a ticket merely a lecture. I’m still not sure whether I was legitimately allowed to do what I did but there we are. Move on
  5. Is it just me or is the standard of driving terrible now. Seems to have happened over the past few years with drivers getting gradually worse. I can barely get off my drive without swearing or making hand gestures to other drivers. Passed my daughter the other day and didn't realise it was her until after cursing at her for being in the middle of the road. I fancy buying a tank just so I don't have to move out of the way of idiots. Is it just me?
  6. ... and ending with 'ya know'...and let us not forget presenters that say 'fink' instead of 'think'...sorry I'll pass the soapbox on to someone else now.
  7. So- I joined the Grumpy Old Men’s Club- because I mean, well, know what I mean? Ha! Ha!
  8. During the Olympics I was getting very fed up with every athlete's interview answers starting with "I mean ...". You haven't said anything yet, why do you have to tell us what you mean?
  9. This watch has a really good deployment clasp. This watch has genuine providence.
  10. I am "so" with you @Welsh Wizard on this one that I just had to join this club as well...
  11. I feel like I have truly arrived For I am grumpy...and I am old...and not forgetting a man. All three bases covered.
  12. On a similar point I really do get annoyed when people are asked a question and the opening word in reply is “So…….” Where the hell does so come from just answer the bloody question. It’s almost as if the word “So” allows them thinking time “So would this help?
  13. Now there are many things I could put on here for this one, but I am going to start with just one Exspecially or Eckspecially...(obviously a phonetic spelling) I am of course talking about the word 'especially'...nearly as bad as the word 'ask' being pronounced 'axe' in America. And don't even get me onto 'Expresso' rather than 'Espresso' p.s. I appear to be posting the most stuff on Grumpy Old Men Club...do I get a badge for being so grumpy?
  14. My wife was flicking through the channels the other night and she stopped on 1dealworld as she thought I'd like to have a look at the watches they were selling to see if there were any bargains... I am not an Accurist fan, but I was utterly amazed by the amount of drivel and skip loads of fawning over watches that (imho) didn't deserve it. This watch got so much praise....why?...I'm still not sure. Yours for the utterly amazing price of £89.99 plus £4.49 P&P, available from 4mazon for £90.23 with free delivery. You can get the black version from 4rgos for £59.99 on leather strap. Such a bargain 1dealworld. From what they implied people will stop you in the street to admire your 4ccurist Skymaster, I'll never find that one out. Is it just me or is that dial a mess? Next we had the 4ccurist Chronograph 7232 which reminded me of a character from a 70's-80's TV series. I am not being giving 4ccurist a hard time, and I'm not trying to rubbish Buck Rogers...I just can't understand how someone can talk about a watch for so long in such a grovelling way. Give them a decent watch to sell and they would probably explode with excitement, or would they even know a decent watch if they saw one? Rant over...for now
  15. It is always dangerous to compare watches (especially on a watch forum where views tend to be polarised) but I bought a Seiko SKX009j1 a little while back, and last week I received a Orient Mako XL. The Orient is a bigger watch compared to the SKX, but they are both 'dive watches', are both non hacking, both non hand winding. Here's where it starts to get a little more interesting... the SKX was give or take £300 and the Mako XL was £93. The SKX was supplied on the usual rubber/plastic strap, the Orient was on a fairly decent steel bracelet. The two watches do look totally different, but I still think there is a comparison to be made. Are far as that hideous Orient logo goes...my eyes are bad enough just to see it as a silver and red blob.
  16. I am sorely tempted by a red Kano despite the logo. I love red dials and that's a cracker.
  17. I just received my first Orient watch (Mako XL) on Thursday and I totally agree with you about the logo. Even the font for 'Automatic' and 'Water Resist' is silly as it is illegible (well it is for me as my eyesight isn't great). However...they make a great watch for the money, very impressed with the watch I'm so glad I bought it. But...silly logo, three different fonts on the dial (not including the other font on date window), somebody should have a word with their design department.
  18. I like a lot of Orient watches and I appreciate the fantastic value for money that they represent but I hate their stupid coat of arms logo. Completely ruins all of their watches for me. Makes them look like Scottish souvenir shop own brand watches.
  19. Let us put the pensioners in jail and the criminals in a nursing home. This way the pensioners would have access to showers, hobbies and walks. They'd receive unlimited free prescriptions, dental and medical treatment, wheel chairs and they'd receive money instead of paying it out. They would have constant video monitoring, so they could be helped instantly, if they fell, or needed assistance. Bedding would be washed twice a week, and all clothing would be ironed and returned to them. A guard would check on them every 20 minutes and bring their meals and snacks to their cell. They would have family visits in a suite built for that purpose. They would have access to a library, weight room, spiritual counselling, pool and education. Simple clothing, shoes, slippers, pyjamas and legal aid would be free, on request. Private, secure rooms for all, with an exercise outdoor yard, with gardens. Each senior could have a PC a TV radio and daily 'phone calls. There would be a board of directors to hear complaints, and the guards would have a code of conduct that would be strictly adhered to. ..... And the criminals? The criminals would get cold food, be left all alone and unsupervised. Lights off at 8pm, and showers once a week. Live in a tiny room and pay £800.00 per week and have no hope of ever getting out.
