  9. Morning, 1940s Recta made by Muller & Vaucher with their own 17j G2 movement. This one’s case back isn’t Recta-signed but, instead, gold plated inside and out along with the fixed bars. The addition of the “Majex” wordmark on the dial suggests that this watch may have been introduced to UK by Marchand & Jobin, importers principally of Majex-branded watches, but also of Recta and Minerva models. Regards.

  13. This arrived today (ESA9158 Swissonic), bought for less than £20 as 'not working'........... Put a new battery in it and when I put the back on it burst into life. Can only assume that the seller had not tried replacing the back when he tested it. It did need regulating though as it was running about 3 minutes a day fast. When I opened it up to regulate it I found that the tag on the +ve battery connector, that makes contact with the side of the battery was missing, but my stock of Swissonic spares furnished a replacement, allowing 'live' regulation on the Timegrapher with the back

  29. I'll have you know they were bought at TK MAX-i-mum, and they were not on the shelf for stuff they want to get out of the store quicker than normal. I don't wear them to be honest because they are the smallest 'large' underwear I have ever bought. They are nutcrackers. Either my 4rse is extra large...or the company that made them have a very different idea for size large. *UPDATE* I have checked the name on the underwear and the name does not match with the watch brand you have been discussing. My underwear is by Beverly Hills Polo Club. I am sure that everyone k

  31. These are an interesting option for anyone considering a Seiko Grand Quartz, King Quartz, QR or QT. Ive had one and have another much nicer one incoming this week. I came across these by chance. Bit of a mystery as to why Seiko called them the 4004. There is also a 3003 and I think 2002. They are it seems even more special in terms of the movement than many of the Grand Quartz and King Quartz of the 1970s. Though some what unknown now. Where they fit in Seikos line up at the time leaves me at a loss. They seem to be the first thermocompensated fully shock proof quart

  32. Lucky man I personally prefer the smaller proportions of the 114270, but there's no doubt his new purchase is a cracker and suits his wrist. Even if he doesn't quite bond with it, he shouldn't lose too much on resale. It could be the slippery slope to ruin though

  33. Unfortunate Deano, hopefully the strap issue will be resolved quickly. Always an element of risk when buying from overseas from a new supplier, something I try to avoid. However, I took the risk with a purchase earlier in the year, after ensuring that I could return if not fully happy, which did (thankfully) prove trouble free. Having looked at more detailed pictures of your selection on their website, the dial finish looks very appealing, particularly the blue which would be my choice!

  40. I find personally 114270 more appealing than 214270. The last looks disproportioned, fat and too blingy for a tool watch.

  41. Exactly. You wouldn't catch Alfred Wainwright walking the fells with 3 watches and 8 torches. A Gannex mac and a pipe was all he needed. Unlike Harold Wilson, who had the gear, but preferred the Scillys. And Lady Falkender.
