  8. My weekend impulse purchase has arrived: Squale 1521. 50 ATMOS and on a leather strap but got it straight onto this nato. This watch has been on the wishlist for a long time and was pleased to find a great example on the bay. This is now my second Squale and very impressed with its quality. Feels like the first watch I'd grab if I were going diving...... If I could dive

  15. Finally managed to prise the new Fossil Decker off my wrist after almost a week, just because I fancied a change. Ironically, I've chosen this one today, which is VERY similar: I've been playing "spot the difference", and so far I've spotted: (1) red tachymeter, not black (2) small minute numbers next to hour batons (3) centre links on bracelet polished to mirror finish, not satin (4) tapered hands on dial and subdials (5) plain unpainted seconds hand with no lume pip (6) no crown guards (7) smaller crown (8) subdials have different functionality (9) minute markers have additional 1/5th

  24. A new member @Sparky Mark contacted me by PM, asking about the age of an Allaine he recently acquired. I asked for a movement shot, of course, and received a picture that surprised me - an early-mid 1970s Cupillard 233-68. Then I looked in my archive of Allaine watch pictures and found one that I hadn't previously identified with a mid-70s FE 140. Which seems to confirm that, in the 1970s, Allaine was turning out "Swiss Made" watches with French movements, at least in these square-cased steel models. Was this common at the time? I don't know. @Balaton1109 Mark's watch (his photos, with pe

  29. Seen some of these watches in those magazines you sometimes get with the paper, cant imagine many people actually wanting and paying for one but as others have said if its free you cant go wrong. Indeed some of them are £100+, but some are real cheapo things, Atlas seem to give these models away when you buy stuff from their magazine, the sort where the hands on the multi dials on the face dont move and are just there for fancy, those are the ones that will more than likely come with your slippers.

  30. The "bike" is big and broad, that red scooter behind it is full size and it is dwarfed. There has been a few similar over the years using 4 cylinder car engines. The engines are usually jammed into these things without any thought about ease of maintenance, and close coupled to a motorcycle gearbox. I think you're correct, and the motor is probably the SOHC Coventry Climax derived unit. I'll probably never see the thing again, and I'm not "train spotter" enough to hang around and stalk the owner.

  36. It is a traditional, straightforward design, with a bit of a twist. I do wonder why I would need a countdown timer and a stopwatch in the bedroom, but others may think of something.
