  8. Morning, This Nivada today, running on a 21j AS 1361N auto, and unusual in that it shows both “Skymaster” and “Aquamatic” model names on the dial. Probably dating from the 1950s but in any event long before the original Nivada company died with the brand name subsequently being bounced between Chinese, South Korean and, latterly, Mexican ownership. Regards.

  13. Two new watches have just joined my collection. Both manual wind (I love manual wind, have 5 now). One new, one vintage. First is first polish watch in my collection, second first chinease one:) First is very special. It's Blonie Super, polish watch produced in 1950s and 1960s. They were the only mass produced watches ever made in Poland. The licence was bought in Soviet Union, first watches were assembled from russian parts. After few years cases and dials were produced in Poland and at one point in-house movement was developed (around 5k watches with it were produced before Russi

  17. Not as cool as @Sulies but I’m wearing my G-Shock too. Thought I’d lost it but found it yesterday evening. Hasn’t been worn for months. Happy Tuesday everyone!

  18. Really? Next they’ll be producing a ladies variant with a dial emulating Casanova’s scrotum. can’t believe I risked that analogy.

  20. ...and the lesson is don’t listen to me if you need cheering up a bit! I threw this knackered old Swatch on today for comfort. A push button missing and the second hand doesn’t go round, can’t help but like it though! That alone should help everyone to count their blessings!

  21. Today's "right, what haven't I worn yet this year" has turned up this one: Think I may well be onto 2nd rotation for some of these before I see a covid jab the curse of being (relatively) young.... well, young enough to be in the rather vague "rest of the population" group at the rear end of the rollout plans anyway.

  22. The way a few weeks ago that Big M wrestled my LV off my wrist as the paramedics were picking me up off the floor to put me in the ambulance left nothing to the imagination. Then she threw my coat in with a fiver in the pocket. It costs fifteen quid for a taxi from the hospital back to the flat. I'm thinking when the airports open up for international travel to sell it and do one with whatever I can get away with.

  30. I have a pretty rare watch coming in. It is expensive, too small for most men at 32mm and quartz. It is also 18k gold, including the bracelet, and the dial and case are diamond set. If it had roman numerals and a cyclops lense it would just about tick everyone's no list But only 650 were ever made, and it is by one of the Big Three, so quality is assured. I have not seen this model in the flesh before so I am looking forward to it

  32. Omega has a 20 year rule for parts availability after a watch has ceased production, some parts may be available for much longer depending on the demand in the 20 year period and how many were made. Given production on the 1000 stopped around 1981/82 parts would have been guaranteed until 2002 at a minimum and possibly later. In the late 1990's Omega introduced Luminova service dials for older watches, I had one on a SM600 PloProf and I believe they made Luminova dials for the SM1000, likewise with hands. It doesn't make the watch any less desirable in my opinion as they are genuine Omega part

  33. Do you mean changed at a service? I hadn't considered that. I was just thinking they were original surplus parts put together as a watch by a watchmaker, but yes, thinking about it, with the watch likely to be over 40 years of age, the condition is exceptional, but would Omega service it, even if they still had the parts? Well I really have Mike to thank for the information he sent me. It's an amazing guide. But yes, it's great how this small forum can produce so much in answer to an open question.

  34. The Wright Brothers plane would have flown further if someone hadn't nicked bits off it to put in a watch. Outrageous. Seriously that Oris would compliment my sharkskin shoes.

  35. I consciously try to go against the herd in most things I do. It's the contrarian in me. some of my 'different' watches... as in watches that fulfill a function without following the normal form or have gone for form over function. Breitling Superocean Heritage - far nicer than a sub or seamaster IMO - definitely not either but the least unconventional of my 'oddballs' Ulysse Nardin +/- Dual Time - definitely not your GMT Master style GMT Something a bit cheaper that tickled my fancy - don;t wear it much as it's quite small but looks wonderfully mad

  38. I was thinking of a making a scrap book / catalogue with pictures and descriptions and date of last service, and sticking numbers on the back of the watches so the kids can describe them accurately on eBay. I think I will be down to 25 or 30 before I pop, on the basis that I plan to sell a couple every year, and live to be 123.
