  5. Morning, Back in the USSR for today's wearer, this Vympel which would have been a smart-looking watch in its day, but now showing some “life traces”. However, its super-slim 23j 2209 movement is clean enough and still works the way it should. Regards.

  7. Funny you say that. I have a bezel-less Seiko 5 on the way and I'm already thinking that I'm going to prefer that on a nato too. Back on the school run. Baltic Aquascaphe.

  15. I actually got a bit excited, and emotional when I saw this. On the left, the first new (and quartz) wristwatch I bought almost 45 years ago. Not known for their durability/reliability, but this one has been all over the World, and stood a total lack of care, and abuse that no watch ever should, and it still works perfectly well. On the right, freshly delivered today is a fairly cosmetically accurate reissue. Same way of setting, no quick set day, only date as per the original, but instead of the quartz electro/mechanical movement, a modern Seiko interior I believe. This one won't be enduring Sub Saharan motorcycle travel, or spend a few days immersed in a cattle slurry lagoon, but I think it will be spending some serious wrist time. The reproduction is slightly thinner than the original, but otherwise pretty close, including the battery hatch on the case back.

  20. To be honest I don't understand the Rolex. Rolex sell it as being related to the motor racing world yet it has screw down pushers and 100 meter water-resistance. What are they racing, submarines? ...

  22. Today's rummage on the watch shelf to see what I haven't worn yet has turned up this black rectangle - one of those negative display G Shocks that's completely unreadable without the back light:

  24. I'm sure I could get the back off and Tippex a 'H' on the dial, there's something quite nice about walking down the street knowing nobody has the same watch as you. Let's face it, who else is going to be wearing a Rolex Hair King on any street, anywhere else on the planet...maybe a hairdresser???

  25. Well the name on the dial is wrong then, it should be 'Hair King' ....

  26. I tried connecting it to my phone, but couldn't get it to work. I'll let you know when I've sussed it out, and managed to put a photo of myself on the dial

  27. I have never aspired to owning a watch worth megabucks, so I will answer your "Pair" conundrum in a slightly different way - Of the watches I have previously owned (& I did have a similar Speedy!) below are the two that I really wished I had kept - The Omega was a second hand buy, but the Oris I bought new from Australia ... 30. You need to connect it to a phone and download the app, there is so much you can do with it including designing your own watch dials.

  33. Just ordered the brown... couldn't get any more than 10% discount but a nice looking watch roll as well as the case. £384 at the current exchange rate but I fully expect to pay import duty on top of that too Rather excited to have something entirely different in my collection On another note... I'm the winning (drunken) bidder on a Yema LED on ebay too

  35. Tried selling the kids years ago, no one wanted them, it’s easier to sell a klaus kobec I don’t really fancy the snowflake. The model above I’ve seen with a grand off retail new. I think I prefer the 44GS case style and the Champagne dial.
