  6. Morning, Staying with my Timex theme from yesterday with this cheap as frites Kelton auto, produced in Besançon as a collaboration between Timex and Stéphane Boullier of Vixa fame, an arrangement which lasted from 1955 until 1961 when Timex took overall control of the brand. The company closed its doors in 1987 although the Kelton name was revived a couple of times under different owners from 1999 onwards. Today’s example probably dates from around 1960 and runs on a Timex M29, which was essentially their M22 but with an auto module bolted on to it. Regards.

  7. It may only be a Mickey Mouse quartz, but it hits the markers! And I didn't smash the crystal putting the back on. Result. J

  14. My oldest watch, and still my favourite, I think. I had the piano tuned yesterday, the first time in almost 2 years. My tuner expressed concern that the humidity level in the room was too low: arid air can wreck pianos as the wood shrinks and the first symptom of trouble is usually that the pins loosen in the pin block and the piano won't stay in tune: all those strings exert many tonnes of pressure on the iron frame. She recommended house plants as a good way of keeping the humidity up, so I have ordered a couple of areca palms, which are rated by NASA (!) as a good bet to clean the air

  22. I am not wearing a watch today. I am doing some electrical work in the house. If I get things wrong I don't want to got to the morgue with a nice watch on which someone might take a fancy to. Now....do I cut the red wire...or do I cut the black wire?

  23. My 1977 Datejust gets an airing for the weekend (going to see my folks for just the second time in 16 months, so nice to share with my Dad for the first time!) That is a fine looking watch. Nice. It has a second hand! Beautiful.

  24. I bought this Fat Face watch to add to my "collection within a collection", thinking it was much bigger than it turned out to be.... Here's the watch on it's own: And here it is next to one of it's slightly larger siblings....:

  28. Nothing seasonal for me I'm afraid, and as you all know, I never take any watch on holiday. Do have some blue dials, though... Seiko 'Sawtooth' with sunburst 'blue wave' dial... Omega SMP 2231.80 with electric blue dial. Citizen blue 'Orca'. And some that have now gone on to pastures new... Not a good pic, but I did once have a blue Majestyk LED (and a red...) Rare blue Seiko 5 'Sea Urchin'. Seiko 'The Great Blue', part of a very limited range and not often seen. The blue dial had a 'sparkly' effect which shimmered under the sun or bright lights. Seik

  32. I was cutting my mothers grass one day and accidentally ran over the extension cable, I got some tools out of the shed to cut it down and fix it. At the same time I shouted in the window to my brother to unplug the extension from the socket in the hallway. He didn't bother and I went ahead and tried to take the socket off the end of the cable. A belt of 240v doesn't half get the old ticker going a bit. I've never touched electrics from that day to this. 33. I can feel an outing for this Timex coming on - same model as my very first 'grown-up' watch, when I was 11 or so. p.s. the dial is blue, not burgundy - it's like that flippin' dress ... and I wore this a yesterday ... JJ

  35. Was looking for something today and randomly found my little World Timer in a shoe box. I wondered where it had went. As usual I blamed Big M Sounds right, pretty much the same here. Nearly 40 odd years later my brother still thinks my brush with death was funny. I don't speak to him much

  39. Can't have a seasonal watch habit without seasons! We have degrees of heat followed by monsoon. But I do have blue dialled watches. There's a blue textured dial in the next one, but you have to look!

  40. Hodinkee X Swatch Generation 1990 Sistem 51 Over twice the price of a normal Swatch but cheaper plasticky clasp. Rough feeling movement and poor QA with specks of the dial. Being a Hodinkee watch, I got my money back through eBay.

  42. Just a niggle really but I bought this Geckota diver, finish is great, interchangeable bezels, and came on (being a Geckota) a lovely quality fitted 5 link bracelet, with a butterfly clasp. No micro adjustment available so I could only have it slightly too tight, or slightly too loose, and while I'd usually opt for slightly loose in that situation the watch is a chunky beast and flaps about like a tanker in a storm. Had to put it on a leather strap instead and while it's still a nice watch, it's not the same
