  3. Camy Geneve Black Starjet. \o/ my strap arrived yesterday for my Starjet (and i may have put it on upside down in my excitement but don't tell me). Its supposed to be dots but the closest I could find was bars. So today, for its debut, I'll be wearing this and doing a 24 hour time test. Its a shame I will mostly be kicking around the house all day myself in my jammies to be wearing it.

  11. I bleat on about my admiration of Ball Watch Company's products and today's arrival is only going to make me worse: The Ball Engineer III Ohio. I've only recently got my head around how attractive bezel-less sports watches are, having been a long time diver fan. Ball have a great range within their Engineer line and there is a good number i'd happily have but I was attracted to this model by the striking blue dial and the numerals - they kind of struck me as an elegant interpretation of the Explorer. One may think the second hand counter balance is over the top but i like it. Specs are as follows: Line Engineer III Reference NM9126C-S14J-BE Movement Automatic Caliber Ball RR1102 Case Material 904L Stainless steel Shock resistance 5000 Gs Antimagnetic 80000 A/m Crystal Anti-reflective Sapphire Dial color Blue Number of gas tubes 15 Micro gas tubes I was able to secure a near 20% discount from CW Sellors as a price match. I'm a repeated customer of these guys as they execute quickly and with quality. They had to source this from Ball directly but still did so in weeks rather than months and once received by them, the watches are out of their hands and with you next day. The watch itself came with the standard Ball box and papers: I'll say again, Ball throw the kitchen sink at the theater of box and papers. You would expect this if you're paying 5X at least and beyond that point, those guys are effectively sending you bedroom furniture with a watch in it..... The bracelet is quality although getting the screws out was a nightmare. A solid mix of polished and brushed effect (apologies for the blurry shot) The caseback has some great detail which is nice. Ball's finishing on their movements is wonderful so an exhibition back would be welcomed too but this is a good effort I'm really struck with the dial so took it for a drive (OK.....picked the kids up from nursery but whatever) and tried it on a distressed blue racing strap which I think works really well but i'll keep it on the bracelet for now The only negative i've experienced with both this and my Trainmaster is that the Tritium Tubes are pretty useless in terms of illumination. Sure, it won't fade on a given evening but you're looking hard to see the effect. Not sure if it's stronger on the bigger tubes with their divers but nothing like the online images suggest. Since Ball hit my radar last year and now I own 2, it's really influnced my collection goals. For me, they are an absolute sleeper hit. Don't tell anyone, otherwise they might start pricing appropreately!

  21. Morning, French-made Renov dating from the 1950s and running on an 18j version of the Parrenin 90CLD with antichoc 102. I never did discover who made this old brand, the only certainty being that it wouldn’t have been the Swiss company Constructa by whom a “Renov” trademark was registered in 1971, presumably by which time the unknown makers of today’s effort were no longer in business. Regards.

  31. Ok. Here's how I adjusted my too slack shark mesh bracelet. Pin it down on something, I used a hand adjust clamp but just get that nearest link solid. You don't want it moving around. I needed 2 'levels' taken off. I originally wanted and I would have preferred to use my Dremel. So my Dremel decided it was going to break today.. the neighbors must be thinking why I swore so much. So I popped the cutting disk and 'pole' into my hand drill.. yup! I'm a little crazy that way but.. frustration leads us down many a dark road.. Anyway.. this is not a horror story (but I I would rather have used the finesse of a Dremel and I recommend you use one). Lean down and cut closer to your 'waste side' taking your time to run across the bracelet (I could feel each part of the link giving way). Remember, if you have one of these of the same type, these are not individual loops, it is constructed more akin to a fence. One 'level' of this is one entire single 'level' of the bracelet. It is one single piece of 'wire'. Think of it like a squashed spring. Take your time and use a pair of round nose pliers to pull out all the little bits left over. If you have been careful enough it should fit nicely to your watch lugs, if they have been a little scratched you can reverse the part of the bracelet and 'hide' the scratches inside the clasp section.

  34. I fully appreciate this is like saying the latest Ferrari has the best engine - few of us would even dream of spending 100k on a watch. But isn't this the most elegant solution to displaying a triple date? Being picky I would like a white filler piece between the date numerals to hide the curves. My kidneys are for sale to the highest bidder

  36. haut horology blah blah whatever. NOPE ! show me a dial that is improved with the addition of a day or date complication ! i mean the days go in a cycle of seven - not too difficult to figure out the day assuming you have some recollection of the one before. similarly the date is mostly yesterday's plus 1 date complications on dive watches - that must be a big bloody air bottle you got on your back ... how long you planning on swimming for ? and contrasting windows to dials - sort of forgivable on a dark dial opposite a baton marker (NOT really) - the only thing i dont like about my MM for the record. whinge over , go on about your business ... p.s. why does everyone here go to bed so early ?

  40. Tissot "Gentleman" with Camellia. Where do Tissot get these names? Is there a downmarket version called a Tissot Oik? And besides, what would a gentleman be doing with Camellia when his wife's called Janet?

  44. I like no date dive watches as it gives a sence of identity to the case and the bezel in balance with the dial. I think my Baltic Aquascaphe would be ruined with a date complication. That dial seems to decend forever. Also the Tudor BB 58 can make a statement with the overall dial without a date drawing attention. On the flip side, the complexity of the day date adds some character and depth with adds to the identity. I feel that with my Trainmaster (which I I'm wearing right now) And I think the new Brietling Premier is almost perfect as a dressier watch the the date being the real head of the dial
