    ORIENT

It's not just on Eaby but other foreign auctions as well. I'd say half the time I see an Orient for sale, the seller makes the claim that they part of Seiko. Is it an watch collectors urban myth?
  2. Did you read about the 68 year old in Calverley Paul? Ahem, love my divers watches, I just don't like the thought of them getting wet
  3. I don't really want (and definitely don't need) one of the Laks, but I can't resist a gadget, especially a cheap one
  4. I checked the price $99 - $149 and thought "What a bag of bo****ks"! and never gave the silly things another thought. Seen em today £32! Hmmm
  5. Although I find Eric's TV inclinations (pic please) and the size of Roy's appendage (no pic req) most interesting I'd like to move back to the T-Touch. I've considered buying one of these but one thing puts me off, surely the glass is always dirty? I wouldn't be able to stop fannying about with the functions with my mucky digit ;) and I can't stand dirty watches.
  6. It' s got to be a set up, right? I just love Whinezone, "I've got $6000 to spend on a new watch but am such a tosspot I can't think of one I like, recommendations please" I luuurrvve those posts
  7. Hi, please please don't take this the wrong way but having had a catastrophic 18 month long financial calamity I would advise you to buy neither and concentrate on the usinng any funds you have to adress your employment (or lack of) situation. During the bad times I needed a lift many times and strangely enough a watch purchase did the trick! Honestly, it's a bad move. OK, take no notice, the Speedmaster it is
  8. I detest spending money on cars but think nothing of spending more than I can afford on bikes, or watches for that matter I spend £3K maximum and wait until they die, my current car is a Audi 80 2litre 1992 and shows no sign of giving up the ghost yet. I've had it 5 years and it's got 130k on the clock, has not a speck of rust, hasn't broke down and sails through it's MOT's. Like all my previous cars it is treated with distain and never ever gets a service, nothing, not even an oil and filter change! I couldn't care less and get a perverse thrill of seeing how long they can go on zero maintenance, my bikes however are lovingly cherished, nothing is too expensive or too much trouble to keep them in pristine condition. Bikes. FS1E (z) Superdream (zzzzz) CX500(zzzzzzzz) GT750 (zzzzzzzz) KH500 (Waaahaaaaaaayy) GTR1000 (Getting sick of shaft drives now) CBX750 (Needed no maintenance, it had to go) NX650 Dominator (Best fun bike) CBR1000 (How can 140mph be utterly boring? Kept it less than a month) XJR 1200 (Miss it, I still look at my picture of this with a tear in my eye ) HD1200 ( Utter crap, I fell for the hype and to think I traded in my XJR, sob )
  9. Actually Andy, I am a quick lurker, working 80/100 hours a week I have to be As my workload decreases and my priorities shift then I hope to contribute more regularly however 14 posts in a month aint bad is it or does Roy set a target? I am sure that your words of encouragement to me will tempt many more lurkers to join
  10. ??You are not making much sense here Andy but thank you for considering my opinion an expert analysis "By my own admittance" Am I in a court of law! I only have one life Andy and cannot contribute to every website I find interesting, I must lurk on a 100 sites, watches, travel, motorbikes, am I expected to contribute to them all? I think not , the assumption that "lurking" is some sort of activity to be ashamed of is plainly ridiculous. To correct your main points, I didn't decide during your argument to air my views. I contacted Roy on an unrelated issue, joined, posted a watch related intro and THEN your tiff with Neil came along, it was a coincidence. It was same sort of name calliing that led me to leave another forum and contribute to this one, I was disappointed more than anything else.
  11. Well well, about 4 miles from me then! I'm in Thackley. I'll get a pic up and more info when I've time as due to a thieving, lying, coke addled business partner I'm just on my way to a night shift, I also work days

Haven't ridden one yet Andy, soon will though, I live 1 mile from the Jeffries dealership. I'm only 41, the standard 1150 is far too old for me I've just sold an xjr1200 (gorgeous) and a gtr100 (functional) and I'm looking to get one bike to replace both, a BMW is definitely on the cards, very innovative company, the bad press I believe is purely down to the "under the counter" arrangement between the glossies and the Jap imorters.

Thanks Andy, that last bit has made me feel much better Are there any restrictions the on the wants? I'd like a Tissot T-Touch, an Orient Power Reserve, a shapely woman who can bake bread and one of those BMW rocksters. No particular order
  14. Certainly won't Paul, it cost a packet. I wonder how many buyers are caught out with all the far east based Seiko and Citizen sellers on Ebay? I think I paid £25ish on an a parcel he had put a £100 value on, ouch!
  15. It's fake pusher and sub-dial. I took 2 of these from a guy in HK in exchange for an old Oris. They are finished as well as they look in the pics, I think they fetched over £80 on Ebay but I think I achieved that price because the were in the UK. When I got them the parcel had been opened and I had to pay duty and vat on the doorstep

But yours is quite impressive , mine are the bog standard 5's that Roy is selling for £40ish. My seller was not so accommodating, he professed not to have noticed that they were quartz. But hey, how was he to know? he only deals exclusively in watches on the auction site!

I thought I'd got a cracking deal on the auctions, 4 Seiko 5's for £45, from a guy I'd previously dealt with in Spain. Only there not Seiko's They are spot on, a great case, crown at 4, name and markers applied well with a bracelet as bad as the genuine ones! Proudly displaying "automatic" they are in fact quartz. I've never been screwed before (on the auctions) ;) and would never have imagined there was a market for cheap fakes of cheap watches, What's the point?
  18. Oh dear, I have left 2 other forums due to being bored with reading countless petty arguments over the most trivial of matters. The petty point scoring is (as a father of a 4 & 5 year) old all too familiar I've lurked on here for a year or so and most members seemed to be above that behaviour. However today worries me, Neil and Andy going to war over a bloody Seiko and "Endure" taking umbrage over an entirely innocent reply to his own question! Quite frankly it's pathetic. Why can't the arguments, once thay have taken hold be pursued "off forum"?
  19. Aren't these similar to Roy's USA padded oiled leather ones? I've put one of these on an 8926 and it looks fine, a bargain at a fiver! I can't offer a considerd opinion on bracelets, I hate them all The first thing I do with any watch purchase is swap the bracelet for a strap. I've never seen a bracelet I like and I've never seen a watch that doesn't look better on a strap.
  20. Thanks Neil, cheeky b****r, after 15 years of collecting perhaps you can let me know when I can join the big boys I've never changed, I see it, I like it, I buy it, it's pathetic but I want instant gratification. I change like the wind, I go through periods of wanting the slimmest watch I can find and others when my BC3 is just not big enough. I'm on a mission to find the perfect watch, I know that it's a pointless, fruitless task but it's bloody good fun. Mark

  22. Hi, I'm now officially out of the closet, I am no longer a mere lurker I think a lack of posts on high end watches is very refreshing, the petty arguments about the trivial benefits of one £xxxK watch over another £xxxk drive me crazy, you can care too much. Me? I apply a scattergun appproach to collecting, my most expensive watch (by far) at the moment is a an Oris BC3 although my current fave an Atlantic Worldrmaster, QXL £22 thank you very much ;) I've taken the plunge to join this forum after being shouted down on a well known site for my collecting style, not the done thing, I didn't think things through clearly enough and was therefore apparently a worthless individual. The best comment came from a guy who said he had a well defined, thouroughly researched collecting style and I quote "an unyielding emotional pull" to his watches! Looking forward to contributing now and again with some more well adjusted individulas although I did note Andy said he would be "devastated" if his Heuer was polished incorrectly, oh dear! Mark.
