    Lawyer

I haven't seen it from that side ! Quite nice ;)
  5. I havent really got much in the way of vintage - however I would probably give one a go with replating to see how I felt about it - tough decision - its like getting a watch re-dailled - also tough.

    Earlybird

OK I'm in .... what movement does it use by the way?
  7. Glad you like it I lost out by 18 seconds ... you were pretty slick! I had to pay the full price - still good value for the money.
  8. Are these the watches introduced in 1964/65; when was this one produced? I have read that some regard this model as good as the Grand Seiko any thoughts on that? The adjustment screw ... well now ... I couldn't resist fiddling with it ... I can see why its there because of the case ... it would be a nightmare for me!

    Lawyer

A very successful lawyer parked his brand-new BMW in front of his office, ready to show it off to his colleagues. As he got out, a truck passed too close and completely tore off the door on the driver's side. The lawyer immediately grabbed his cell phone, dialed 911, and within minutes a policeman pulled up. Before the officer had a chance to ask any questions, the lawyer started screaming hysterically. His BMW, which he had just picked up the day before, was now completely ruined and would never be the same, no matter what the body shop did to it. When the lawyer finally wound down from his ranting and raving, the officer shook his head in disgust and disbelief. "I can't believe how materialistic you lawyers are," he said. "You are so focused on your possessions that you don't notice anything else." "How can you say such a thing?" asked the lawyer. The cop replied, "Don't you know that your left arm is missing from the elbow down? It must have been torn off when the truck hit you." "Oh my God!" screamed the lawyer. "Where's my Rolex?"

    Babe Watch

This guy is standing outside on his balcony on the 5th floor of his apartment when he spots this gorgeous babe sunbathing topless on a 3rd floor balcony, she has the finest figure he has ever seen. He watches her for 3 days straight, and can't stand it any longer. He sends down a note on a piece of string: ''If you want me to make love to you please pull on the string once. If not please pull slowly 20 times and then faster another 10."

    Earlybird

Do O&W still make the Earlybird model?
  12. Sargon - it will hurt us our exports to the USA will be affected and we will start importing more from the USA so good for the consumer. It will be good for US exports and make your huge Chinese imports a little less affordable - it will increase US iflation. As far as how is the currency rate established - it has mainly to do with interest rates (which are changed as a result of economic factors such as private borrowing, retail sales, house prices, GDP etc), but also has a big element of sentiment and concerns about the future (a bit like a stock price). Dont forget it can also be engineered by the government as a short term fix to reduce imports, care is required because of inflation fears. The amount of currency in circulation does effect the rate but it is not as important as it once was. What about the Euro, if the UK adopts it there might be a surge, but it could be managed by the European Central Bank. The biggest problem with the UK adopting the Euro other than the loss of sovereignty is the fact that economic decisions made in Germany would affect the UK for example. Mainland Europe is dominated by Franco-Germans, it is their club - if the truth was known they would rather the UK be outside Europe. The decision about adopting the Euro will be put to a national referendum - at present the public would vote against adopting it. Basically we dont trust europe
  13. Did you sell a thousand watches ?
  14. Frank a nice tribute was he a relative?
  15. Paul often termed the forgotten war - it didnt and still doesnt get the coverage of D-Day - the British were not involved in a tougher campaign. Respect to the memory of your father.
  16. This year is the 60th Anniversary of D-Day, if you had a choice of a horological tribute what would it be? My grandfather was in the Royal Tank Regiment - but a tank watch isnt really my taste. As he was army rather than navy or airforce I would prefer a military rather than diver or pilot. The question is what? I quite like the Record ... but that has been done already elsewhere. I don't really know enough about military watches of this era; any suggestions? Finally; a lot of watches in that era were in the 32 - 34mm range, I assume military watches were as well. Should a tribute be the same size or should it be scaled up to say 37mm to 38mm?
  17. I was a bit sceptical at first but having read a bit on them I think it is a great idea -a mechanical watch with quartz accuracy and no batteries.
  18. OK I will settle for a true 24hr RLT then
  19. Nice one Paul - looks good
  20. Its doesnt work for me Paul - I always think "France" when I see them; remind me of the sashes that overweight French mayors wear A patriot strap for England would be difficult; red and white - would it work? how about a design based on Naval General Service Medal 1909 - 1964. White might be a problem. Roy how about a patriotic strap based on the "1939-1945" Star ribbon it represents the Navy, Army and Airforce? Full of good ideas
  21. Roy how about an RLT 10,000m Diver tribute to the Rolex 10,000m as a project for 2004? ;)
  22. Great tip Chris - I had the same problem - looks great now. Roy is right - these straps are worth buying for the clasps! Fitted a black 18mm to my old "Desotos Chronographe" stunning result. Only one complaint Roy - I had to trim them to fit now that's a first for me!!
  23. Recieved my first O&W this morning; the new 46mm "Pilot". Very pleased with it, well finished and excellent value for money. I can't see what all the fuss is about.
