  1. His Simon, what’s the best way to remove the dial? I’m assuming the hands need to be removed, do they just lift off? I’m new to this so no too sure
  2. Yes asking and getting are two different things. The item no was 153587713739. It does look very similar to my one. Started at £10. I’ve managed to polish it up and looking at it looks quite good. I may list on eBay starting at £1 and see where it ends up. Would rather it go to someone that would appreciate it more than I will. These watches have been kept in a box for a few years now so f someone would appreciate one I would rather that.
  3. Thanks for the reply. I don’t have the stem. The measurement of the pendant is 3mm inside width. It has a thread inside it. Also 3mm depth. I don’t mind if the crown isn’t original. Would be nice if was an original. I would rather see if the watch works before looking for original parts. If I can source a crown and stem first and go from there. As I’m totally new to watches I was looking at stems thinking they were too long not realising that they can be cut to length. I will start by buying a box of mixed stems and find a crown to fit . Thanks for the reply
  4. It’s a black/bronze colour from what I can tell. Thanks for the info. The condition of the Crystal isn’t the best but will look at polishing out the scratches. I did notice one in similar condition selling on eBay with an engraved back for a £200+. Was quite surprised considering the condition.
  5. Thanks Andy, looking closely at the case it looks like a 311980 the 3 isn’t very clear and looks like a 2. Ive posted on the repairs section so hopefully I will get a reply with regards to the crown and stem. I have polished the glass and removed the scratches and put a strap on it as below.
  6. If anyone could advise what crown and stem I need or point me in the right direction so I can order one and hopefully get it working. I have polished the glass and purchased a strap as below.
  7. Thanks for the replies. 1895 seems right from what you are saying. Looking at some of the hallmark guides it does look similar to a V. Its nice to get an idea of the age of the watches.
  8. Hi, can anyone tell me where I can find a crown to fit the watch in the pics below? Thanks in advance.
  9. Thanks, I have a feeling the collection will grow.
  10. The stamps are the same as the rear of the watch casing. Could anybody point me in the right direction to date the case? I’ve searched Birmingham hallmarks and think it’s 1799 but can’t seem to match the shield shape around the “b” if that makes sense?
  11. Thanks Karrusel for the advise. I have taken some pics below https://beta.photobucket.com/u/Sands0777/p/35d417ea-65b6-4c9a-91c4-d3a02af5e393https://beta.photobucket.com/u/Sands0777/p/567be90a-497a-45d4-861b-83eeeec72b5fhttps://beta.photobucket.com/u/Sands0777/p/4458983f-c002-480d-9076-4177f5c707fehttps://beta.photobucket.com/u/Sands0777/p/2814e1b5-7f0c-4d6c-aa77-3f7cc77b70achttps://beta.photobucket.com/u/Sands0777/p/4b2290a5-8fe0-4299-9d23-b4f5886ae001

  14. Hi all, I am researching some watches I have inherited and would like some advice if possible. I have a Waltham wristwatch that I would like to restore and source a replacement crown. I don’t know where to start with finding a crown so if someone can point me in the right direction I would appreciate it. pics below: Waltham USA face of movement. Rear of movement: A.W.W.C.O Waltham mass serial 21899343 Would like to know the date if possible. Case: Dennison watch case co. Ltd. number 9 in square below anchor and letter v 375 A.L.D. 211950. I have purchased a strap and would like to polish the glass and replace the crown. I think it will look nice with a tan strap and not worried if it doesn’t work just like the watch. Thanks in advance.
  15. Hi all, I have stumbled upon the forum while researching some watches I have inherited a while ago. I’m just looking for some information regarding the manufacturer, date etc or any history. I have researched some and have added information but if anything is wrong I would appreciate it if you could point me in the right direction. Silver pocket watch: Rear inside. letter s at top walking lion=silver? Anchor=Birmingham? letter b font seems to be 1894 number 68 below the W.G.H. Front of crown: walking lion= silver letter b sideways 1894 Rear of crown: initials G.H. I don’t know how to open the rear where the winder is to see the mechanism so can really show it. Does anyone know how to open it please? Second pocket watch: Illinois watch case co Elgin USA gold plated? this case guaranteed to wear 10 years serial 2884449 movement 17 jewels 4 adjustments with arrow pointing up inside a circle. swiss made serial 974834 no visible manufacturer name on movement so fining it hard to research. Both watches work and keep excellent time. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
