  1. I have a Jaeger Le Coultre master Compressor Pro Diver Geographic which I have had since new for about 8 months now. I had planed to actually go diving but after an attempt I realised diving probably isn't for me (started to panic when googles fogged up and I was only down 2 meters!). Having a watch that is going to be telling me how deep I am not going day in day out for the rest of my life isn't what I had planned so I'm thinking of selling and getting another watch of the same calibre. I was thinking of the AP Royal Oak but was told today in the watch gallery that it would be a downgrade. What watch should I be considering to replace the JLC, anyone have any suggestions?
  2. Hi all, I just received a lovely new (from the 70s) watch with a Valjoux 7737 manual wind movement. I have never had a manual wind before. Any top tips on how not to break it? ie, which direction should it wind in, how many times should you wind it, etc etc? Thanks in advance...
  3. I've been hooked on black faced watches from my twenties  now while this watch pleases me and given it's age keeps good time I find myself not wearing as often as I might, however if it had a black face it would never leave my wrist. My query is would an EXPLORER face and hands fit it ??? your views and comments please gentlemen. regards beach bum
  4. I have bought a few with this description recently, and so far I am 6 for 6, all just needed the battery  . But when this was described as needing a battery I took a punt Paid a price that nothing would work, it was full of water or a transplanted movement (ie not enough to worry about) and it was working fine when it arrived. Still can't work out what battery it needs :yahoo: Shame about the marks on the dial but I think I am still on the safe side of not losing money
  5. Hi there I wanted to post this in wanted but it wouldn't let me as I'm a newbie! Anyhow, Im looking to buy one of the speedmaster Apollo anniversary watches to celebrate the start of a new project. One of these http://forums.watchuseek.com/attachments/f31/45782d1176679117-wtt-omega-speedmaster-apollo-11-35th-anniversary-os1.jpg There seem to be quite a few available in the US but not finding many in the UK. Any ideas anyone? Needs to be in superb condition with a paperwork, boxes etc. Thanks.
  6. I was in an Omega showroom with a friend a few days past where I viewed a Speedmaster that would cost, after discounts and everything, just under 5000 USD. 'You mad? I'd get a few different watches for a few hundred dollars each and wear them, for 5000 USD', my friend remarked. He isn't a watchhead and can thus be forgiven, but he did get me thinking. Let's say you were given (only on Top Gear do you get 'given' money, but pray read on) $4900 (I surreptitiously keep the extra $100) to spend on 7 watches, one for each day of the week. Which ones would you choose? And why? These all have to be brand new, mind.
  7. I currently have three watches in my humble collection - one on a steel bracelet, one on a ZULU nylon strap, and one on rubber. All of which are very decent watches for just under $100 and all of which serve me well as daily wearers (Pics up soon!) A big birthday is coming up in a few months however and I do want to look at a chronograph on a leather bracelet. Realistically I can afford to set aside $500, perhaps $600 if there is a very good reason for me to do so. I've shortlisted 2 models, but am really welcome to any suggestions. The models are: - Vostok Gaz ( ) - Jorg Gray 6500 ( ) Both run on Miyota movements, but I'm wondering what a decent Swiss choice would be, at this price range. Cheers!
  8. This was given to me, and i have no idea about anything. Anyone know a background or a link to tell me what the watch is (beside it being a Mathey-Tissot) such as what model? What year it was made? What value does it have?
  9. Hi, I have being trying to find out about this watch, the manufacturer, where, year of manufacture etc., but nothing comes up online. Its 18k old case with patent and brevet stamped on the crown. On the dial is the name Neutral. Thanks for any information
  10. Hello, I am new to this site. But I have inherited these two vintage ladies watches and was wondering ifanyone could enlighten me as to their value. I think they are from the 60's and the UNO one is 9ct gold case and strap. The Everite is just 9ct gold case and rolled gold strap. They are both working perfectly. The seconds hand on the UNO is missing so ive ordered a replacement for it. I look forward to hearing any information you may have. Many thanks, Alison
  11. This is my first Luxury watch and I am very excited to share my experience with you all. This is the two-tone TAG Heuer Aquaracer 500m Ceramic/18k Gold Bezel Calibre 5 with 18k gold two-tone bracelet. Some people compliment it but others just strictly do not like it based on the color. However, this piece is unique and I'm in love with it. What do all of you watch enthusiasts think about it?
  12. In the 2 watches thread Bond makes an interesting point that if you spank £150k on a car and then get a watch that you can hardly read the time on to match does it matter? Sometimes watches are simply pieces of art and excercises in engineering, I give for you an example of the Titanic DNA day & night watch. http://blogs.wsj.com/wealth/2008/04/25/the-300000-watch-that-doesnt-tell-time/ one balance wheel turns in the AM and the other turns in the PM, if you had the money would you still get it? The only thing that would put me off getting this (other than the price!!) is the fact it is made from bits of the Titanic and I find that creepy. Do you know of any other watches that dont perform their major function but are either works of art of pieces of engineering wonder? Pictures would be good Untitled by jorritschrauwers, on Flickr this is the 'offending watch' cheers Yogi
  13. Hi Guys. I bought a vintage Jaeger Lecoultre, but i dont know much about it maybe you guys can help me with some info. Its a mens watch. The watch is made of 14 carat gold The case is 25mm wide without the crown, 27 with crown. The height is 25mm and 30mm with the lug. *What would this watch be worth? *From witch date is it? *Witch model is this? *Will the value go up on this watch? I hope you guys can help me with some info, Thnx. Greetings, Vintage3489
  14. Guys, I love the aesthetics of this watch. The two-tone is not overwhelming as there is a great proportionate combination between the two colors. The black face is really nice. I love the skeleton at the 12 O'clock. The band feels much better quality than my Tag Heuer Carrera and Aquaracer. I'd have to say that I really love this piece. The engineering behind this simple, classic, classy, piece was carefully thought out. Overall, I'm very satisfied with the purchase. It looks wonderful on my wrist and already got a dozen comments on wearing this piece. Let me know what you guys think? If anyone can provide me more insight on its movement that would be greatly appreciated as I don't know Raymond Weil products all that well.
  15. Hi. I just came across this automatic watch and am curious if anyone has details or info on this brand and model. It is a Moviga Chronotech Automatic. Top of case tests to be at least 14k gold. Runs.
  16. Hello All, This is my first Luxury watch and I am very excited to share my experience with you all. 17. Other opinions on the watch I posted? I would say 98% of people I ask about this watch tell me that it's ugly. Is it really that bad looking? I also have a Movado 800 Series Chrono and I was told that it looks better than the new Tag Heuer that I posted. Is it true? Tell me what your thoughts are please.
  18. Still Learning and trying to remove a movement from a Unicorn Watch I have removed both the case screws and the stem. However the movement does not want to lift out of the case. Do I need more force? or have I missed something? I am always wary of applying too much force, but dont see any thing else holding the watch.
  19. Been waiting for this since Feb/March. I've eluded to it in a few posts and it finally made it! New Arrival and I am Absolutely Ecstatic! Door jams - BEWARE! Have not seen anything posted on here for these but I pre-ordered mine back in Feb/ March. It is the Helberg CH1 and it is not for the faint of heart... Or Wrist! I absolutely love it and have had an extremely hard time keeping my mouth shut about it coming. For those that are not familiar... it is an homage to the Rolex Deep Sea Special which made the most incredible journey on Trieste down to the Challenger Depth (36K feet!) back on January 23rd, 1960. As everyone knows, that particular watch is made out Unobtainium with only 2 examples existing, and therefore only in my dreams. I guess that would be the ultimate Grail - one you will never possess no matter how many zeros are in your financial portfolio. 1st the reveal... then the "Normal Shots"...: Since limited to pix uploads, please see Part Deux - for "The Money Shots"...: They did warn me when I ordered it with the huge spherical dome sapphire crystal, that it could distort the watch face but they were working on a couple of designs to cut that distortion down. You know what? It isn't that bad and I just don't care! It is easy to read the dial even at a ~45° angle. You are all probably chomping at the bit for the specs, so here they are: Case Dia: 41mm (meh) Bezel Dia: 42mm (meh) Movement: SWISS ETA 2824 Lug Spacing: 22mm (meh) [these dim's are needed to maintain the proportions/ratio of the original watch] Crown Diameter: 9mm (oh yeah!) (You better be sitting down for the next three specs...) Case Thickness: 27.2mm!! [i just realized some of my vintage case Width/Diameters, are not this big!] LTL Distance: A whopping 57mm!! Weight: ~330gms (w/bracelet)!! Limited Edition of 150 each in SS (316L) and 150 in Bronze (CuSn8) These specs are a little impressive as well...: - Water resistant 600 atmos. / 6000 meters / 19685 ft. with optional spherical sapphire glass and closed case back. (The way I ordered this one - I wanted it as close to the original as possible) - Antimagnetic: 70.000A/m. with closed case back. - Inside AR coated / anti scratch sapphire crystal. - 120 position bezel. - Stainless steel bracelet with micro adjustment. (Brown leather and black leather straps were also included) The Biggest, Baddest, Sapphire crystal in all of the land! Overall height with the solid SS closed back will be 27.2mm (just measured mine @ 27.4mm!)!! Let that sink in a minute. Hold a ruler up to your wrist - I did! 3 ¾ MILES DEPTH Rating (6 Kilometers)! ! Please see Part 3 for the comparison.
  20. Can anyone offer info on a Moviga brand Chronometre Watch? I would be interested to understand value and offer it for sale as well. I will post a picture if interested. The watch is a Moviga Chronotech chronometre Automatic with date window.
  21. Hey everyone, I got my first pocketwatch yesterday for Christmas. My great grandfather bought it in the early 1930s in Amsterdam. Why is it so hard to find any information about Ronson pocket wacthes? I can't even find an auction online about one. Am I just not looking hard enough? Anyway attached are some photos of it. It seems to keep time really well and is in good condition. Kees my grandfather told me it was his dads everyday watch not his fancy one, apparently that one was lost quite a few years ago.
  22. Hello chaps, chatting to the father-in-law last night in the pub and the topic of watches came up, he mentioned his fathers watch that he has in a drawer, a non-running approx 1950s swiss made Roamer manual wind and wants to fix it up, I have done a bit of digging but cant find anything about the watch at all. Perhaps someone here can help? with info on the watch and where best to get it fixed up? I know its not worth much but its sentimental. Greatly appreciated.
  23. Hi there I bought a Longines watch from a seller in Hatton Garden, he has said the watch was discontinued, although I’m unable to find it online. I would be extremely grateful if you could help me find out a bit more about the model? The two photos are here: Thanks very much
