  1. Hi all, I've been a background observer and fan of the forum for quite some time but never had the need to post. Until now. I've inherited the below watch and was wondering if anyone could shed some light on model, specs, value etc. Any additional information is appreciated. As background, the watch was issued as a long service award to my great uncle back in 1966, was worn for a year or two and then put back in the box in the bottom of his wardrobe with all the papers and there it stayed until he died. The original case of the watch was previously replaced and engraved with the
  2. I posted on the WRUW topic earlier but heres the official thread! I was lucky enough to pick up this little gem today. Paid for it during the lockdown at the end of April after spamming my ADs with chaser emails regarding my current position on "the list". I'd got into a bit of routine of touching base every few months. The next day I got an email to ring in urgently.....and 2 months later here we are!! Amazing service. Whilst I didn't get the obligatory glass of bubbles for obvious reasons, they kindly gave me a free gift (Rolex branded leather card wallet) and a letter from the C
  3. As the ADs are beginning to open their doors again I wondered if anybody else is due to collect any new timepieces they ordered during lockdown? What did you pull the trigger on, or what are you likely to purchase in the coming weeks/months. I'm on the 7 day countdown to collect my Submariner Date. Can't wait. I say 7 days, I mean 6 days and 14 hours! Although if i'm being completely honest i'm already looking at adding a Seiko Turtle Save The Ocean to my collection.......I think I have a serious horological addiction!
  4. Hi all! Got this piece recently and want to get to know it a bit better. I've read from a couple sources online that the brand Pioneer was made by Rolex for the Canadian market - is there any truth to this? I assume this is just companies cashing in on the "Rolex style" branded movement and unbranded dial/case back and the loose relation to the Pioneer Rolex model to get more money out of people? Any further info on time period or such would be great! Case measures 31mm inc. crown, 15mm strap with and 36mm lug to lug.
  5. I have a beautiful 1916 Rolex 'Trench Watch' which could really do with a professional service, and I would love to know where I could get it serviced. It has one slight issue that I know of which is the mainspring. It could do with going on a mainspring winder to tighten it up, but I did not see the point of buying one just to fix this watch only. The one on the left is the Rolex needing the service. (Rolex, Elgin, Rolex) Any advice regarding servicing, watch repairers that could do this, or cheap mainspring winders would be really appreciated.
  6. So I have finally gone into the world of automatic watches. I have acquired a Rolex Submariner Ref 116610LV otherwise known as the Hulk. And I’m so happy with it. Such a beautiful time piece.
  7. Hi guys, Does any of my forum users know where I might be able to obtain a replacement 4130 movement for my Rolex Daytona Cosmograph. Thanks.
  8. Hi, I'm trying to decide on a piece I can wear for everything. This is my first watch and at the age of 31 I am running out of reasons not to buy a watch for myself. I can't find a fiancé which comes with an engagement offering, or parents that will produce a graduation present. So I'm looking at either a more practical Bell & Ross BR02/BR03 Diver or a Blancpain FF (2200-6530-66) or a IWC. Any other suggestions welcome. All I know is I don't want something too recognisable . Would like something a bit different. The Blancpain FF with the black bezel is where I'm currently leaning, thanks i
  9. My niece has just got a job in a jewellers that happens to sell some lovely pre-owned watches. Popped in to see her and... well it would have been rude not to try something on. I have to say I have always had mixed feelings about Rolex watches (this may be because I'm from Essex) but trying on a couple of ladies datejusts I can really see why people love them. They felt quite different from anything else I've ever worn: substantial, heavy and beautifully made. Alas even with a hefty family discount I'll have to do some saving... I did purchase a nice Tag 1500 instead though. Also with fam
  10. Hi, am struggling to choose the ap roo titanium or the Rolex Daytona white gold with red bits, maybe here can help me decides which one looks better and will last longer, keep in mine I already have the Daytona ss panda, and the new Daytona white gold with oysterflex, I was going to buy the ap but I just saw that Daytona preowned and I can get it out of my head it looks fabolous but the ap do as well
  11. Hi there. Looking for some advice from ones more knowledgeable than myself. I recently turned 30 and have threatened treating myself to a decent timepiece for years. But now it comes to buying one I'm struggling to decide. I ideally want one that won't absolutely haemorrhage money once purchased and maybe even one for a sound investment for the future. So looking for some suggestions or even warnings of what to avoid. Willing to push upto 6k mark at the very most at the time being. For a bit of context the watches I like at the moment are:- Bretling Superocean Heritage II
  12. Hello everyone! Long time no see! I have been away from the forum for ages and thought this wee Rollie I picked up today was a great excuse to join back in. It's a 15 jewel "Standard Quality" Rolex movement in a Stainex case which seems to fit but the crown looks much newer. The NATO is my own. What do you all think? http://imgur.com/Ft5BPEK http://imgur.com/PZkp1rA http://imgur.com/uVb0Z1M
  13. Hi guys. I've recently developed a full blown watch obsession and whilst i have been reading/researching on the net, i have to admit i could do with some help. I currently own several quartz and one automatic (fossil), not including my jaeger vintage pocket watch. My next buy i wanted to be a swiss made automatic. I've picked out 4 and wanted to know people's thoughts on these watches and if they are worth the money. 1 - tossot pr100 powermatic 80, blue dial. £475. I recently saw the quartz version and it didnt feel as heavy or as nice as i thought it would for the price (i h
  14. I removed the crown screw on my rolex datejust and seperated it from the winder spline however I lost the associated spring any advice where I can source a replacement please
  15. Just that really After seeing a Rolex Explorer I in real life I’ve decided to (try) acquire GMT Master II Black / red ‘pepsi’ only it seems like a unicorn will be found sooner. Stainless steel wait at my local AD is 6-8 years! Another one stopped adding names to waiting list six months ago. Yet everywhere seems to have them in various types of gold...not my thing not to mention the price Its silly really but no doubt the demand is creating more demand from those looking to make a quick buck. I’m going to visit all AD’s in my area (West Midlands) and hopefully get a phone call this y
  16. Hi everyone,I am trying to find out any info about a watch i was given a few years back. It works fine but i know nothing about it. It is a small gold watch with linked bracelet with a pale face and a blue ring around it. It has Rolex and W&D 9K 782235 Swiss on the inside of case and Rolex swiss made 15 jewels and i think FASR on the mechanism I can't seem to upload photos but if anyone has any expertise in this area i would be happy to email them picturesThank you in advance :)
  17. So I bought a fairly recent Rolex used from a local jeweller. The watch is away being valued for insurance, and a service. But they more I look at the box, the more I think something is not right - it also rattles in the lid (like a weight has come loose) is is the box genuine? Thanks for your help. Photos can be found here: https://imgur.com/gallery/IdRL8Jf
  18. So I decided to send my Unicorn Movement off to my Watchmaker to receive a new mainspring, watchmaker informed me that the packet has arrived with a split in it and no plastic container with the movement in it to be seen! I now need to source one of these Unicorn Movements but none currently on the Bay can anyone help? Dimensions are approx 25x15mm https://www.dropbox.com/s/rvkatk73l4lb4u7/Screenshot_20180727-132718.png?dl=0 https://www.dropbox.com/s/rvkatk73l4lb4u7/Screenshot_20180727-132718.png?dl=0
  19. Evening ladies & gents, Firstly, thanks for having me, literally just made an account. So you all are aware I am a complete novice in regards to watches let alone Rolex's so apologies for any naivety on my part. My current range is a bog-standard Casio G-SHOCK and a Kirby Morgan (diver) watch which I believe runs with Seiko internals but don't take my word on that. So, I was recently fortunate enough to have won a 'Rolex Deepsea 126660 James Cameron Edition' watch through a BOTB (Best of the Best) competition run through the UK. For those of you who don't know it's a guessing gam
  20. https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2018-06-05/steve-mcqueen-s-rolex-submariner-5513-coming-to-phillips-auction sourced fr Hodinkee https://www.hodinkee.com/articles/phillips-to-auction-steve-mcqueens-rolex-submariner-ref-5513 There’s questions that McQueen maybe wore this 5513 in addition to his trusty 5512, prior to making a gift of it. Article claims that this Rolex was unknown previously, but I call BS; there was an interview with Loren Janes many years ago, retracing the route of the famous Bullitt car chase, and Janes showed the writer his engraved Rolex from Steve, claimi
  21. Hi everyone, I hope you are having a good Monday! I was wondering what your thoughts are on a leather strap on a Rolex Datejust. Has anyone here ever seen one on a Datejust and thought it looked good? I had a look on google images and can’t trust my own judgement, but I thought perhaps a tan, brown or black strap might work. Or is it juat stupid on a dressy watch? I should explain. I have a Datejust which is steel and white gold on a jubilee bracelet. My dad decided to pass it on to me, but I honestly have only worn it less than ten times since I got it 2 years ago. I hate
  22. So, being an Omega guy, always kept me away from the dark side ( Rolex) ,but recently it started growing on me more and more. I have always liked the GMT function and the Pepsi bezel, but the price of GMT Master 2 is getting higher every year and I think I am not still " big enough" to indulge myself with it. So I started thinking of Explorer 2 - 16570. Black or white, it didn't matter. I haven't considered Sub as I already have a SMP 2531.80 Bond and the sub is too iconic, too flashy, too recognisable, too burglar's choice. The funny think is I have never tried it on. Anyway, later
