  1. Hi, I'm trying to decide on a piece I can wear for everything. This is my first watch and at the age of 31 I am running out of reasons not to buy a watch for myself. I can't find a fiancé which comes with an engagement offering, or parents that will produce a graduation present. So I'm looking at either a more practical Bell & Ross BR02/BR03 Diver or a Blancpain FF (2200-6530-66) or a IWC. Any other suggestions welcome. All I know is I don't want something too recognisable . Would like something a bit different. The Blancpain FF with the black bezel is where I'm currently leaning, thanks in advance. https://ibb.co/Ypw8nL3 https://ibb.co/T0G0X9g https://ibb.co/8BYm5nP https://ibb.co/mGbkqfC https://ibb.co/7kYVg4g A D E E free online picture hosting
  2. My niece has just got a job in a jewellers that happens to sell some lovely pre-owned watches. Popped in to see her and... well it would have been rude not to try something on. I have to say I have always had mixed feelings about Rolex watches (this may be because I'm from Essex) but trying on a couple of ladies datejusts I can really see why people love them. They felt quite different from anything else I've ever worn: substantial, heavy and beautifully made. Alas even with a hefty family discount I'll have to do some saving... I did purchase a nice Tag 1500 instead though. Also with family discount. Pics will follow when I pick it up when link has been added. I've never been into divers watches but I see so many on here I think I've been brainwashed. Has trying on a watch changed your mind about a brand/style - love or hate?

Hi there. Looking for some advice from ones more knowledgeable than myself. I recently turned 30 and have threatened treating myself to a decent timepiece for years. But now it comes to buying one I'm struggling to decide. I ideally want one that won't absolutely haemorrhage money once purchased and maybe even one for a sound investment for the future. So looking for some suggestions or even warnings of what to avoid. Willing to push upto 6k mark at the very most at the time being. For a bit of context the watches I like at the moment are:- Bretling Superocean Heritage II Rolex GMT master, black/blue bezel Omega speedmaster Omega Seamaster planet ocean 600m Open to any suggestions or advice.
  5. Hello everyone! Long time no see! I have been away from the forum for ages and thought this wee Rollie I picked up today was a great excuse to join back in. It's a 15 jewel "Standard Quality" Rolex movement in a Stainex case which seems to fit but the crown looks much newer. The NATO is my own. What do you all think? http://imgur.com/Ft5BPEK http://imgur.com/PZkp1rA http://imgur.com/uVb0Z1M
  6. Hi guys. I've recently developed a full blown watch obsession and whilst i have been reading/researching on the net, i have to admit i could do with some help. I currently own several quartz and one automatic (fossil), not including my jaeger vintage pocket watch. My next buy i wanted to be a swiss made automatic. I've picked out 4 and wanted to know people's thoughts on these watches and if they are worth the money. 1 - tossot pr100 powermatic 80, blue dial. £475. I recently saw the quartz version and it didnt feel as heavy or as nice as i thought it would for the price (i have a £200 diesel that feels loads better) 2 - TAG HEUER CARRERA CALIBRE 5 MENS 41MM AUTOMATIC DAY-DATE WATCH - blue dial. Looks really nice, but £2000 for a tag? Which made me think of number 3 3 - omega, de ville, blue dial £2550. But only 3atm for the price puts me off. 3/a - omega seamaster aqua terra blue dial £4000. Love this watch but i can by a rolex for similar price (what do i do) 4 - rolex oyster perpetual £4300, chanoagne coloured dial. I wanted the watch to look dress smart and that ruled out omega seamaster for me which was £2500. Cliffs, which watch is best value for money, best investment, best build etc, looks best? Tissot Tag Omega de ville Omega seamaster Rolex Thanks
  7. I removed the crown screw on my rolex datejust and seperated it from the winder spline however I lost the associated spring any advice where I can source a replacement please
  8. Just that really After seeing a Rolex Explorer I in real life I’ve decided to (try) acquire GMT Master II Black / red ‘pepsi’ only it seems like a unicorn will be found sooner. Stainless steel wait at my local AD is 6-8 years! Another one stopped adding names to waiting list six months ago. Yet everywhere seems to have them in various types of gold...not my thing not to mention the price Its silly really but no doubt the demand is creating more demand from those looking to make a quick buck. I’m going to visit all AD’s in my area (West Midlands) and hopefully get a phone call this year saying they have one. Any ideas on how I can get my first Rolex from an AD is appreciated
  9. Hi everyone,I am trying to find out any info about a watch i was given a few years back. It works fine but i know nothing about it. It is a small gold watch with linked bracelet with a pale face and a blue ring around it. It has Rolex and W&D 9K 782235 Swiss on the inside of case and Rolex swiss made 15 jewels and i think FASR on the mechanism I can't seem to upload photos but if anyone has any expertise in this area i would be happy to email them picturesThank you in advance :)
  10. So I bought a fairly recent Rolex used from a local jeweller. The watch is away being valued for insurance, and a service. But they more I look at the box, the more I think something is not right - it also rattles in the lid (like a weight has come loose) is is the box genuine? Thanks for your help. Photos can be found here: https://imgur.com/gallery/IdRL8Jf
  11. So I decided to send my Unicorn Movement off to my Watchmaker to receive a new mainspring, watchmaker informed me that the packet has arrived with a split in it and no plastic container with the movement in it to be seen! I now need to source one of these Unicorn Movements but none currently on the Bay can anyone help? Dimensions are approx 25x15mm https://www.dropbox.com/s/rvkatk73l4lb4u7/Screenshot_20180727-132718.png?dl=0 https://www.dropbox.com/s/rvkatk73l4lb4u7/Screenshot_20180727-132718.png?dl=0
  12. Evening ladies & gents, Firstly, thanks for having me, literally just made an account. So you all are aware I am a complete novice in regards to watches let alone Rolex's so apologies for any naivety on my part. My current range is a bog-standard Casio G-SHOCK and a Kirby Morgan (diver) watch which I believe runs with Seiko internals but don't take my word on that. So, I was recently fortunate enough to have won a 'Rolex Deepsea 126660 James Cameron Edition' watch through a BOTB (Best of the Best) competition run through the UK. For those of you who don't know it's a guessing game where you selected from a variety of tickets from cars, watches, bikes, holidays etc. The aim of the game is to guess where the center of the football is in the screenshot of two footballers looking in the direction of the ball. I was lucky this week and my winning ticket was the Rolex. So as a winner you are given the opportunity to either take the prize (worth 9050 GBP according to their website) or take a cash alternative at 7000 GBP. I hastily took the watch as I have been made aware from a fellow Saturation diver who collects Rolex's that their value usually increase overtime. They have now placed the order and have been told the waiting list can be anywhere from 1-2 years. My question to you is, over the next year or two whilst I’m waiting for the watch could you estimate any increase in value and also over the next 1-5 years thereafter? I guess the answer to that will also answer my next which would be do you think I made the right decision in turning down the cash option. Completely understand no such thing is guaranteed and any estimates given are exactly that, just an estimate. Thanks for taking the time to read through this, apologies for it being a bit long winded, just wanted to spin the whole spiel. Cheers ads
  13. https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2018-06-05/steve-mcqueen-s-rolex-submariner-5513-coming-to-phillips-auction sourced fr Hodinkee https://www.hodinkee.com/articles/phillips-to-auction-steve-mcqueens-rolex-submariner-ref-5513 There’s questions that McQueen maybe wore this 5513 in addition to his trusty 5512, prior to making a gift of it. Article claims that this Rolex was unknown previously, but I call BS; there was an interview with Loren Janes many years ago, retracing the route of the famous Bullitt car chase, and Janes showed the writer his engraved Rolex from Steve, claiming it would never be for sale. Well, all things come to pass. I think Janes was the one who did McQueen’s bike stunts, including the actual jump in The Great Escape. There’s a great documentary on McQueen on the Bullitt Blu-ray disc, I remember watching the interviews with the stuntmen to see if Janes’ 5513 is in view. I think he was wearing a long sleeved shirt. :-\
  14. Hi everyone, I hope you are having a good Monday! I was wondering what your thoughts are on a leather strap on a Rolex Datejust. Has anyone here ever seen one on a Datejust and thought it looked good? I had a look on google images and can’t trust my own judgement, but I thought perhaps a tan, brown or black strap might work. Or is it juat stupid on a dressy watch? I should explain. I have a Datejust which is steel and white gold on a jubilee bracelet. My dad decided to pass it on to me, but I honestly have only worn it less than ten times since I got it 2 years ago. I hate scratches or imperfections, and so I constantly worry about demaging the bracelet and am constantly wiping it (even fingerprints) like a maniac. Also, yes I think it looks lovely as a dress watch, but I don’t tend to eat out at “dressy” places and my friends would mock me for having a shiny Rolex. I also don’t like wearing it to work as I wouldn’t want my bosses to notice it. And to be honest, yes as someone in their 30s I feel I haven’t quite grown into it yet. It perhaps seems a little old-fashioned for me. On the other hand, I’m thinking it’s a shame for it to sit in a box almost unworn. If I could dress it down a bit with a leather strap I could protect the jubilee bracelet, make it more “me”, yet still wear the watch more frequently and get use out of it. And hopefully most people wouldn’t recognise a Datejust on a leather strap. Anyway, any advice on a strap for making it look nice but less formal would be greatly appreciated! https://www.flickr.com/photos/158651480@N03/23492677608/in/dateposted-public
  15. So, being an Omega guy, always kept me away from the dark side ( Rolex) ,but recently it started growing on me more and more. I have always liked the GMT function and the Pepsi bezel, but the price of GMT Master 2 is getting higher every year and I think I am not still " big enough" to indulge myself with it. So I started thinking of Explorer 2 - 16570. Black or white, it didn't matter. I haven't considered Sub as I already have a SMP 2531.80 Bond and the sub is too iconic, too flashy, too recognisable, too burglar's choice. The funny think is I have never tried it on. Anyway, later on I decided that I preferred a brand new one ,but the current version is too big for my wrists ( 215670) so I decided to go for 214270 39 mm, longer hands and luminous 3,6,9. Yesterday I received a call from the local AD in Brighton that they have it in stock and today I went there with the idea to buy it ( note that I haven't tried it on before too). Well, it was a nice watch in deed, but again too flashy, to crispy edges, somehow we didn't bond. It didn't sit so comfortably on my wrist ( for reference I was with a Speedy Pro 3570.50 today, which is a very comfortable watch to wear). Accidentally , I spotted a 2nd hand Explorer 2 , 16570,black face, with box and papers, flly services and refurbished and 2 years warranty. I just asked to have a look and the decision came by itself. My first Rolex ! Hopefully, not the last one. Cheers. Dimi
  16. Hi I want to buy a new watch and I can't decide between the new seadweller or one of the customised deepsea from titan black

  18. Hey guys, im new to dealing with watches & would really appreciate your advice on this one. Thanks!
  19. Really happy, just bought this today: http:// My first and probably only one I will ever own Going to get lots of use out of it
  20. Hi all, I am very pleased to finally be able to contribute to this fantastic forum as I have recently been gifted with my very first Rolex. I was hoping someone may know more about this watch and also how to care for it. As far as I know it's a 6694 from the 60's. This watch has a few ware marks on the dial, in and around the crown and on the case. Personally I really like how this has aged and think these marks and to the character. It is a smaller watch but this suits my weedy wrists anyway and I've never really been a fan of bigger watches anyway. I have no clue what makes this watch tick and will be having a look inside myself soon enough. If anyone knows what movement these were made with Id be much appreciative? I am looking to get a new strap for it as it currently has a rios brown croc strap. Which does work beautifully but it's not Rolex and I can be pedantic about the little details. Does anyone know of the best sites to go for this or ideally if anyone knows of any shops local to London where I could browse? I have not worn this much yet so can't really comment on the accuracy for now. I absolutley love this watch, I think it is stunning. Please let me know what you all think, would love to see some other 6694's! And if anyone has suggestions on caring for this piece of art please let me know. Thanks Guys,
  21. This arrived yesterday and I had to try a selection of straps on and photograph it. Today I took it to my local watchsmith who checked under the hood, despite it coming in it's original box with original bracelet, I had not seen the exact condition of the 1570 movement even though I had a timeograph printout included in the package. I was extremely pleased when the back came off to find a super clean 1570 as well as a etched service date for last month. Happy days. (this is not the original jubilee strap included, it has a little stretch and I'm not fond of the style, so this is a cheap strap i'll use occasionally, but I prefer leather) sorry, forgot to include essential details. It's a 1971 1603 datejust. Original dial and hands, the case has been polished 'correctly' according to my local watchsmith who seemed very impressed with the finish.
  22. Been waiting for this since Feb/March. I've eluded to it in a few posts and it finally made it! New Arrival and I am Absolutely Ecstatic! Door jams - BEWARE! Have not seen anything posted on here for these but I pre-ordered mine back in Feb/ March. It is the Helberg CH1 and it is not for the faint of heart... Or Wrist! I absolutely love it and have had an extremely hard time keeping my mouth shut about it coming. For those that are not familiar... it is an homage to the Rolex Deep Sea Special which made the most incredible journey on Trieste down to the Challenger Depth (36K feet!) back on January 23rd, 1960. As everyone knows, that particular watch is made out Unobtainium with only 2 examples existing, and therefore only in my dreams. I guess that would be the ultimate Grail - one you will never possess no matter how many zeros are in your financial portfolio. 1st the reveal... then the "Normal Shots"...: Since limited to pix uploads, please see Part Deux - for "The Money Shots"...: They did warn me when I ordered it with the huge spherical dome sapphire crystal, that it could distort the watch face but they were working on a couple of designs to cut that distortion down. You know what? It isn't that bad and I just don't care! It is easy to read the dial even at a ~45° angle. You are all probably chomping at the bit for the specs, so here they are: Case Dia: 41mm (meh) Bezel Dia: 42mm (meh) Movement: SWISS ETA 2824 Lug Spacing: 22mm (meh) [these dim's are needed to maintain the proportions/ratio of the original watch] Crown Diameter: 9mm (oh yeah!) (You better be sitting down for the next three specs...) Case Thickness: 27.2mm!! [i just realized some of my vintage case Width/Diameters, are not this big!] LTL Distance: A whopping 57mm!! Weight: ~330gms (w/bracelet)!! Limited Edition of 150 each in SS (316L) and 150 in Bronze (CuSn8) These specs are a little impressive as well...: - Water resistant 600 atmos. / 6000 meters / 19685 ft. with optional spherical sapphire glass and closed case back. (The way I ordered this one - I wanted it as close to the original as possible) - Antimagnetic: 70.000A/m. with closed case back. - Inside AR coated / anti scratch sapphire crystal. - 120 position bezel. - Stainless steel bracelet with micro adjustment. (Brown leather and black leather straps were also included) The Biggest, Baddest, Sapphire crystal in all of the land! Overall height with the solid SS closed back will be 27.2mm (just measured mine @ 27.4mm!)!! Let that sink in a minute. Hold a ruler up to your wrist - I did! 3 ¾ MILES DEPTH Rating (6 Kilometers)! ! Please see Part 3 for the comparison.
  23. Finding it hard to find definitive information on a watch I have. I bought this LANCET 15 jewel cal. 984 some years ago. I was told it was 'rubbish' but liked it and as the movement looked nice I had it overhauled and wore it. Lancet 15 jewel cal.984 cal.984 by ashleybones, on Flickr I did some research and was pleased to find it was made by Langendorf who later branded watches as LANCO. I did some further research today and found a recent 'ended' eBay auction for a similar LANCET with and identical movement which was non-working - it sold for £1,032. Can anyone give me any more info on LANCET, the cal.984 in particular and why on earth a non-working one should sell for such a high price. Thanks.
  24. Hello, I wanted to introduce myself. I am a big watch fan and wanted to talk to like minded people. I have a Heuer WS2112 re-edtion, the model that was made by Tag Heuer to celebrate the original 1960s carreras. The watch has the vintage style brushed face and leather perforated strap. Stephen
