recommend a guilloche

Recommended Posts

I've got a hankering for something a bit classy and detailed. I'd really like a JLC, but it's unlikely. Failing that, a Longines master collection moonphase would be nice:

Still pricey though. Can you recommend a nice moonphase or guilloche dial, sub £500? I'm considering the Oris big crown pointer too, but it looks a bit lumpy.

Are you after a Guilloche textured dial, or a moonphase? Or both?
The nicest Guilloche dial I've had was the first generation of the "Chrono Classic" from Victorinox. I got mine after the 2010 Basel relaunch.

They used to cost just shy of £500 but a decent second hand one shouldn't be more than £200 really. Standard quartz chronograph running a Swiss "Ronda" calibre.

I'm too lazy to dig through my old archives so here's a link to a stock photo;

The longines looks special I'd go for that, never been keen on the Oris Pointer, it always strikes me as a cross between a dress watch and a field watch, sort of Army Officer. Which is in-fact the only real aspect I like about it. The lumpiness you refer to is definitely there. I'd describe it as Gothic, in a sort of not good gargoyle way. Sorry if that sounds contrived. Just read old fashioned and fussy. :yes:
