Family Benson

Recommended Posts

My Benson has been handed down over the years and I have never found out where or why it was bought/gifted, I'm thinking long service watch but there's no engraving.

Looks as though it's never been used as no marks to indicate use. Movement dated 1932.

Anyway I was taking a couple of items to our local Auction house as they had a couple of free valuation days, so I took the Benson along.

This unmarked watch is boxed in its original box, it's case is 9ct and the movement is gorgeous. Much admired by all.

Valuation £200 - 300! Gulp.

Is that right, I'm no pocket watch expert but this seemed very low.

I'm no expert in anything, especially pocket watches, but I thought that estimate might be too high!

Lots of pocket watches are available and not enough collectors will keep prices down.

Dennison Swiss Silver cased, Birmingham hallmarks 1912 £375.00 for sale at Andrew Charles in Hitchin.

Valuation given by auctioneers is their opinion and is dependent on their customer base and area of sale, I brought a CWC fatboy watch couple of years ago for £60.00 from Ipswich have seen them estimated in that there London Town for upwards of £250.00.

As it's a family piece and unlikely to be sold getting numerous valuations would be useful to get an insurance value I'd have thought.
