Sea Urchin gets all the attention despite myriad of more expensive watches

Recommended Posts

Not that you wear watches to get comments, but despite owning/ wearing a Rolex Submariner, three Omega's and an array of others, the good old reliable Urchin is the one that with a double-cuff shirt people stare at and ask about. Maybe b'cos it's fractionally bigger than the Rolex or it just catches eye for another reason I'm not sure, but for around £100 it's a must for anyone. As a director I'm more than happy with it's status as it certainly looks the part as well as being nigh on quartz accurate!

Up until a couple of weeks ago, I had three... a blue, an orange and a black.  You can do quite a nice mod on the black version, changing the insert for a green one. Gives you the LV look but without the cost. I still have a couple of the green inserts if anyone wants to have a go...pm me if interested, tenner each.

Seiko 'Sea Urchin' trio

Here's the black one with the LV insert.

Seiko Sea Urchin Green.

Extra bezel LV inserts...

Roger's Watch album.

Maybe gets the attention because the general public and those not in the know ,think it is a rolex?

It's funny that they never comment on my genuine Rolex SM though. Weird

Why is it called sea urchin?

Because the minute markers on the rehaut appear to meet seamlessly with the minute markers on the 20 minute bezel section, resembling sea urchin legs....at least that's what I read on the web.

The only Rolex anyone commented on that I owned was my white dialled Daytona.  Neither the Datejust, Explorer or two versions of the GMT2 elicited any comment whatsoever.
