is it an illness

Recommended Posts

I wondered if watches were like an illness , you only ever need 1 to tell the time , they depreciate 90% of the time , so why buy more than 1 ? I found myself looking at e bay today at wengers , Christ I don't need a wenger I don't need a Victorinox , I don't need any of em ive already got 4 to tell the time

why do we buy loads of watches ?

doctor hellllllllllllllllllp

Yes it's an illness, a mental one. We all have it. There's no hope for us now. Just give in. It's the most enjoyable mental illness there is.

For me...... it's only an illness if one deliberately wears a watch that one accepts is inferior deliberately in favour over a superior watch. Then it's an illness....:nono:

I usually wear one of my Seikos before I even think about getting the Rolex GMT or Omega SMP out...I just prefer them. Do I need help? Does @mach 0.0013137 and his gang of 'specialist' nurses need to pay a visit...? :doctor:

I find the most amusing part of it all when i think back to all the 'valid' reasons i've given myself as to why i needed to have each watch

Remember,that doesn’t make you a bad person:whistle:

Definitely is but it could be worse! I've done this with phones for years and recently added watches to my illness. Going to need a lot more money now with this illness!

Im on a cull at the moment had 4 for sale in sales corner sold 2 to members here in the past couple of days one is on Ebay already on the other will be going on tonight. To many watches I can only wear one at a time and a nice one for only 6 months of the year. Gonna go from 12 to about 5 or 6 when finished.. I am now at peace with myself...

I keep trying to kid myself that I'm going to cull my 40 or so watches down to half a dozen of the best watches I can afford and stick to that... won't happen.

This month I realised that I can't afford the next on my list -the new Spinnaker Sorrento, so I got cold sweats and nearly bought an Ebay cheapy look a like, just for the fix... crazy. I just took a deep breath and said I'll buy the Spinnaker next month and move on down the list !!

I'm of the same opinion now days. Over past few years just been buying when a good deal comes up telling myself that I'll wear that but end up rotating the same few watches I've got really comfortable with. So my cull has began, I have unsubscribed to my usual AD's mailing lists and will look to settle down to usual suspects:

Rolex datejust 41

Tudor Palagos

Zenith el primero

Tag f1

To go list:

Monblanc twin counter

Breitling Superocean 44 Special

Tag Carrera gmt

Tissot chronometer power 80

Tudors gmt/bb58/lht Palagos

Alpina pilot

3 x Citizens Lefty's

2 x Auguste Reymond

Reymond weil freelancer

Harold pinchbeck

D hodges 1016

Tissot prc200

Gucci XL sport

Bloody hell now listing of the above I do agree this is an illness!. I am sure i have missed off a few...:swoon:

It's a man thing I think. My other 'thing' is guitars. Have 7electrics and 2 acoustics. The two acoustics are more or less the same but the last ones prettier,so justified. Over the years most of had over 20 electrics. It's chasing 'icons' I think. As humans we seem programmed to collect. Look at the kids with Pokemon cards or sticker books
