Cash Converters - anyone bought ?

Recommended Posts

Just been chatting to a watch buyer for Cash converters. Seems like it's not a very good proposition to ever sell a watch to them,,,, but buying seems to be more interesting. I assumed they got watches in , cleaned them "out back" and stuck them in the window, but not so apparently. He was telling me about a couple of Omegas they just got in and that they have gone off for a full service and polish etc etc ,,, and the prices he was talking about putting them up for seemed very reasonable....

Anyone had any experiences with these guys ?

Lots.  And I wouldn't recommend them.

Half of the lots are great, half are not.  I have had £500 watches just dropped in jiffy bags.  Regularly quartz watches don't arrive working.  I have asked different stores to specifically check on a watch functionality such as does the date change (when you can see on the website is it half way in the window), they checked and still sent me a watch that had the same issue I had them check.

I can afford to take a few risks, and some items are great.  But I have one back with them for repair, and another awaiting a refund (must chase that!).  They are not watch specialists and it shows.

Seriously? He's saying they service and polish all the watches they buy in before putting them on sale, or just these two Omegas? Strange how they never mention this in their ads.

Where do they go for servicing? Any proof of service with the watch?

Ask him what checks they do on proof of ownership?

Is he representing the Cash Converters group or one individual store?

Feel free to give them a go but I wouldn't go near them.

The little watch kiosk in our shopping centre has a big advert in their window saying just that.

:laughing2dw: :laughing2dw:

I asked once, £350 for a full service and polish on a Sub.

Anybody tried them.

Yes, I bought the Rotary Aquaspeed off them with the red dial, which went to @Davey P way back and i think now resides with @martinzx. That was 39 quid in Colwyn Bay. I think it had been dropped as there was a dent in it, also i had to pack the battery with silver foil, which dave pointed out wasn't a good idea and i think he had it properly repaired. I don't think it had been back to Rotary for a polish or service, but who knows.

Hang on i tell a lie it came from Cash Generator, is cash converters the posh one?

Seriously, I bought a Smiths watch from one of their shops a few years ago. Cosmetically it was good, and it was supposed to be serviced, which it certainly wasn't. When I took it back and asked for a refund, they argued that  I had "overwound" it. After arguing, they agreed to give me a credit voucher for goods to the same value out of their shop. I kept the watch and got it fixed at my own expense. As far as checking the legitimacy of the stuff when it's brought in, my local scrap merchant is more thorough.

Who'd have thought black shoe polish would get a Rolex case and strap SO shiny!

I bought a Breitling Steelfish from Cash Converters a few years ago. Half retail price and came with full boxes and papers.  Overall the buying experience was OK and I'd buy from them again.

Pole, Cash, Barge, Touch, Convertors.....

Make a sentence out of that.

The barge converters choice is a longer pole for touching tunnel sides easily, for not much more cash than a standard one.

I bought an Omega from one Cashconverters a few years ago. When I got it home I noticed the serial number on the watch disn’t match the cards. Returned for refund.

More recently I bought a Tag not working (probably just needed a new battery and I was willing to take the risk) but when I got home the spare links were for a different watch. Again a full refund but given only after I had to complain to head office.

I doubt they do any checking let alone servicing.

I wouldn’t buy anything else from them. Dirty places.

I spoke to someone who said that Cash Converters are starving the market of second hand Accurist watches although the Birkenhead shop is rumoured to have some.

I heard the waiting list is now five days, and locals are buying scratch cards in the hope the winnings will afford the first down payment.
