Since last night (choose my watch before retiring at the mo) ...

And in its natural environment, if I can sneak up to it in the dark ...

Another day, another pic of the Everest

More Smiths today and whilst the slightly bulky adjustable clasp was a hot topic of discussion on launch, it has earned its keep over the past couple of days...

This one today, the last in my Gigandet collection and sadly not anywhere near the quality of the other 5. Fixed bezel and what appears to be extruded metal making the case lightweight though this may just be the difference between the matt and shiny parts Generally poor with a somehow unfinished appearance IMHO.

Morning,

Today this Orefa from the 1950s, possibly by Dreffa of Switzerland and, if so, a fine piece of cross-border collaboration with a French movement in a Swiss watch. The movement’s base calibre is a hand-winding Lorsa 237B, on to which their chunky self-winding module was then bolted with the jewel count in today’s example now raised to 19 and the whole contraption secured in place by a wire spring movement holder.

All a bit Heath Robinson-ish, although I have read of a German-made Anker driven by a 21j version of the Jeambrun 23D with the same Lorsa auto module attached, perhaps suggesting better commercial success for this oddity than I had imagined.

Regards.

Have gone with @Karrusel 's 1940s theme with "Bosun Knife"... which i only recently gained knowledge of in the "other interests" part of TWF ... always presumed the spikey thing was for making holes in leather or removing stones from horses hooves or something .... until someone enlightened me to the actual purpose ... ie undoing knots or "messing with bits of rope" as they put it ... which makes sense being as i got the two of them off a boot sale in Pompey ... ... sorry @Karrusel .... honed in on your knife rather than watch which is another gem of an early bumper ... where do you find these things ? oh and my watch ... i nearly forgot .... ralco 15j :)

NB .... notice to all UK Residents .... (especially Londoners) .... after you have put out your towel in the back garden .... spread on your factor 30 .... fixed yourself a Pimms and settled down quietly to absorb the suns rays .... please keep one eye open for "heavenly bodies" falling from above .... PTSD can take years to treat ....
