I have half out, and half in the safe. A couple of my Russians are getting pricey to replace, but not impossible. The other batch of watches on display I never wear, they are just interesting complications (to me) and of little financial or sentimental value. Meanwhile in the safe are my birthday watches and my dad's watch, none of which may be expensive to replace in money terms but difficult in other ways. And the rest of my watches, which are not worth nicking but I spent quite a while finding them and they have come from all over the world. But I do wear them all, so they all see light of day in rotation.
Don't have a safe so my collection sits in a display/winder box in the lounge and I would rather a thief just take them than try to `persuade' me to show where a safe is. No external alarm box to suggest I have someting worth stealing but a lovely sprocker spaniel that will bark the house down if someone tries to enter the house.
I got the safe when I had a spell working away from home. Ditto my CCTV which detects movement and people - I like it. I suppose I should point it at my watches so I can look at them while I am at work!
And I don't think they are worth stealing, but when I got burgled nigh on 30 yrs ago they took my watches anyway, which was very annoying. Curiously they left my GP Seiko, perhaps because the battery was flat, perhaps because their pockets were already full or they got disturbed.
I know, and it's not just a financial thing - the watches we have kind of resonate with us in some way, and you can't replace that. One of my watches stolen had a very minimalist black dial - it was 'only' a quartz fashion watch, but I also loved that the crown was domed and smooth, and I thought that was very honest, because it didn't need winding or setting - I'm a designer myself. Not valuable, but a nice little nugget of design, and never seen one quite the same.
While I was still working I kept my watch display boxes up in the loft for safe keeping, but now I'm retired and will be at home more, plan to bring them down and have them displayed on shelf units I have bought.
Just have to get round to decorating and assembling the shelf units first then they will come down from the loft.
yep, but I am lucky working from home , so can have them on display 90% of the time in my man cave /office , however if I go away for a long weekend with the cars or on holiday , the first two rows are moved to a safer place . being one who has been burgled in the even distance past makes you more cautious.
I have a 20 slot watch display box and two ten slot boxes. They live in my bedroom, but go in the attic when I go on holiday, but please don't tell anyone.

I like the fact it is on the wall, but would rearrange the order. Consider taking the two chrono's on the middle layer and putting them to the left of the other two chrono's in the bottom layer. Now, move the classic faced watches with stainless bracelets to the first two slots on the middle layer, leaving two spaces for the red and green strapped watches to the right. Please do this as soon as possible and re-post the picture. Sorry, my OCD just took over.
