New in 30mm 1986 seiko 5h22. Yes ive gone full circle after at least 2 weeks collecting 1970s manual winds. I realised they are not really practical with nil moisture protection. So im back to my sweet spot 80s qtz. Ive also a tissot incoming and another seiko1770b082cd2ba5fc22d209e1d58a8fea.jpgddeaaa9cf80b2675c7e78a48757229cd.jpg

would that jewel be on the end of the balance staff?  I have no idea but thinking that might make sense to integrate with a shock protection system?

Unfortunately, I never taken this one apart and could never find any info on the Smiths 512, only the similar-in-configuration 612 which is a jewel-free zone.

Smiths movements are largely a mystery to me, but looking again at my 512 under the loupe, what I had thought to be cap jewel now kinda doesn't. So, thanks to your observation, I'll amend this one to be a 0j until my researches find something a wee bit more definitive. The anti-shock is also proving elusive to identify. Ho hum.

Cheers.

Not sure why, but I've switched to this mechanical for the rest of the day:

Who knew that I'd actually get to like these things, with their old fashioned springs and cogs whirring away :laughing2dw:

Just started going for a swim at the gym in the morning so I’ve been wearing my SMPc with nato.

I used to own the same watch. It was inexpensive, but quite well made, and kept pretty good time. I just went off of skeleton watches, that's all !
