John Harrison Marine Chronometer H4

Thanks Bernie, you can't read enough about the great man!

Found the first paragraph amusing stating that Astronomer Royal Nevil Maskelyne had edited the book , he was certainly John Harrison's nemisis!

Considering that Maskelyne's predecessor Edmund Halley, who with renowned clockmaker George Graham, recognised Harrison's immense talent & assisted his introduction to the Board of Longitude.

Thankfully George lll intervened & put a stop to ^^^^^ carp & John Harrison was, rightfully so, awarded his prize. :notworthy:

If I may (again) Bernie, add another fascinating reference which some may find interesting ?...

Thank you , Alan .

I found your additional article very interesting indeed . The section on the grid-iron pendulum was fascinating . The use of two different metals with differing expansion rates , keeping the pendulum the same length at different temperatures was genius . Well worth a read IMO . Thank you for posting the article , Alan
