Morning,

1950s Wittnauer with a gold-filled bezel, running on their 17j 10ESB movement (a modified ETA 1080) and came as a “present” from my watchmaker.  Seemingly it had been handed in to him as a non-runner by a customer whose son didn’t want it either and so, after some magic resurrection work (i.e. a service), it now has a new home.

As many will know, the New York-based company’s history goes back to the 19th century and had remained family-owned until 1936 after which it went through various owners. However, according to some sources, and despite the long distribution association, the Longines company was not one of them.

Since 2001, the Wittnauer name appears to belong to Citizen by way of their Bulova brand and clearly the modern-day Wittnauer watches have nothing in common with the vintage company, other than the name.

Regards.
