Morning,

Neither of the two most likely recorded makers of the French “Dollar” seems to fit this effort, whether it be Algiers-based Etablissements S. Marquis Verrier et Moulin, clockmakers who registered that brand name in Paris in 1939 when Algeria was still under French control until independence in 1962, or Edouard Kummer of Besançon who had also registered a Dollar brand name, but with a different wordmark, in 1922.

The calibre here is an FE 233-68, placing this watch no earlier than 1965, generally taken as the year when France Ebauches was created by the amalgamation of several French movement makers. So, what we have today is a watch possibly made around 1970 but in an older style, and from a so far unidentified French maker  -  which isn’t particularly satisfying.

Regards.

Yeah, good point mate.  I think the date window is a bit unnecessary, but never mind, at least it's bloody tiny so I can't read the date anyway :laughing2dw:

Afternoon gents...Seiko 6309, the 6309 was mainly used in the seiko automatic dive watches from the mid 70's to the mid 80s or so, So im dating this to 1983 given the serial number. It looks a lot older with acrylic crystal etc, more 1960s in feel and i thought it was possibly a 1963. But given the 6309 came out in the 70s its going to be late than that. Ive put it on a leather, just could not get a good fit on the bracelet.

eventually it took the pump out that cost 1500 quid a right rip.
