Thursday already? WRUW - 23 Jan?

Recommended Posts

Strapped this on last night as you can see, but it is now definitely Thursday!

This is supposed to wind both ways, but maybe my magic lever has broken, because it needs to go widdershins on the winder. But who doesn't like a bit of assonance in the morning?

A misty start to the morning so I've gone for a bit of colour.

Morning,

Today I've gone for this German-made 1950s Osco with their in-house 17j cal. 52 and founded by Otto Schlund of Pforzheim in 1948 before joining Philipp Weber’s Parat sales and marketing collective.

Probably deserving a story in its own right but not for today, in the years leading up to the original brand’s insolvent demise in 2010, the company’s then principals, Otto’s two grandsons, seem to have enjoyed something of a “colourful” career. Allegedly.

I believe the Osco name was subsequently resurrected as a mushroom brand selling budget quartzies and frankly I’m not really that interested in knowing by whom. And whilst there are some exceptions, this is just one of countless depressing examples of vulture companies, often Far Eastern, adopting a moribund but once-respected brand name and then making much, much less of it than the original vintage company ever did. Legal, but maddening.

I’m now off to take my meds and cancel what remains of my online Anger Management course which regrettably hasn’t been working as well as had been promised.

Regards.
