Hallmarks - optional bits!

I like to think I know my way around a hall mark by now, but this one threw me.

SD is for Sylvian Dreyfuss, as you would expect in a Rotary case

The scales with 375 is the fineness, so 9k gold

375 is also for fineness, 9k gold, 

The anchor is for the Birmingham Assay Office

So where is the date letter?  Apparently that is optional!  Not helpful if you are trying to date the year the watch was made.
