Setting Second Hand of Rotary Automatic - Help!

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I was recently given a Rotary Skeleton Watch (GS02940/06) which is automatic, and I love it.

However, when I set the time I can't set the second hand.  It doesn't "Freeze" like every other watch I've ever had, so that you can push the bezel in and start it at exactly the right time.

Am I missing something?  I've read the manual carefully and looked online but can't find any reference to this.

Thanks!

Not all mechanical watches have a hacking movement, on quartz watches the second hands stops when crown is pulled but not all mechanicals

As mentioned above not all mechanical watches have a movement which allows you to stop the second hand, with some mechanical movements if you exert a bit of pressure on the crown as if to move the hands anticlockwise it stop the second hand until you release the pressure.

Thanks.  That what I assumed would have happened (exerting extra pressure stops second hand).  SO there's no time to get the second hand right?  Seems odd (and mildly annoying, since I like trying to do this!)

You'll be lucky if it is accurate to 5 secs per day. Once you've figured out if it runs fast of slow, set it accordingly. My tolerance for mechs and autos is 30 seconds. Once they are off by that much I reset them.
