Hoping when it goes for a service next year the dial cleans up a bit but it's not a horror.

Bought a display back to show off the nicest Russian movement I have: Soviet 'interpretation' of the prize-winning Zenith Cal. 135, but with sweep seconds.

The Vostok has other modifications, possibly to enable volume production and require less skill in assembly, but the marque had a limited lifespan - the cost/benefit equation still presumably stacked against it, although they would run chronometer spec, apparently.

Morning,

An Italian brand for today, this 1960s Aretta made by Francesco Marinsek of Trieste. The company was founded in 1954 and the Aretta brand registered in 1960. Seemingly, there was then a 1962 re-registration in Milan.

Not finding a huge amount out there on this, at least until 1989 when the Italian tax authorities apparently had some “full and frank” discussions with the unfortunate Francesco. Outcome unknown, but probably not something you’d relish for yourself.

Today’s effort runs on a 17j Lorsa 238A and is currently graced by a truly dreadful strap  -  not made in Italy.

Regards.

I need something with which to time my poached egg, lots of sun pouring into the parlour makes the reflections tricky though, and apologies for the floppy shirt-cuff on a Monday, but it is a holiday.

Here's one with fewer reflections and less hippy haberdashery.

Still wearing the Homer Phynox and using yesterday's picture. Only when seeing it on my PC with a 19" monitor did all the scratches on the crystal become apparent. Don't see them at all on the wrist.
