Rockford Pocket watch

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone, This is my first post here but excited to learn more about pocket watches and wrist watches for that matter. I searched the forum but didn't find anything the would pertain to my piece. I've recently inherited my great grandfathers pocket watch. No plans on selling (might need to assess value for insurance) but would love to learn more about it.

Here's what I know so far. It's a Rockford Hunter 4 door movement serial is 535621. Found this link: https://pocketwatchdatabase.com/search/result/rockford/535621/link

Any thought out there? She still winds and seemingly runs just fine though I am sure it could use a good servicing. Funny enough it has a diamond on the back outer door and the gold is almost coloured. I'm super intrigued by all this. I've always loved watches and pretty chuffed to be in possession of this one.

Thanks for ay feedback.

Not much to add, you seem to have done your homework. Rockford were a USA watch company which weren't around for , the pre-1896 watches seem to command better prices. The movement and dial were produced by the company and fitted into standard sized cases produced by case manufacturers so they vary a lot. Popular as railway watches apparently.

I don't think you will need a valuation for insurance purposes it is likely to be under the threshold of most household insurance policies. It sounds like a nice piece and given it was your great grandfather's a service by a pocket watch specialist might not be a bad idea
