Panerai Luminor Due - Real?

Hi Folks,

My first post here. I'm an admirer of fine and interesting watches and looking forward to spending plenty of time here chatting timepieces!

In the meantime, I'm considering a second hand Panerai Luminor Due purchase (PAM00906). I haven't seen it in the flesh yet, but it seems fairly pukka. I don't really know what to look for with these watches however, apart from the obvious. The only real trigger for concern is that it is apparently only a year old, and being sold at a fairly keen price. Perhaps I'm just gazing into the horse's mouth...

Any thoughts or tips in this regard generally? I have pictures - how do I post them (*goes off to the FAQ...*)?

Cheers,

F

If it's a private sale be very careful. I'd be looking for an original authorised dealers sales reciept for a start, and give them a call. For the amount involved, I would be collecting in person, and organise, as already mentioned, at my expense, for it to be checked before parting with any cash. It could be a fake, it could also be genuine, but stolen, you don't know.

I am very much with Steve @WRENCH on this one - take all precautions you can.

As soon as I heard the terms, "Panerai" and "keen price", My heart sank a little bit. Still, if it turns out to be a wise purchase then you have a beautiful watch to show for it; something that is just out of the run of all the major collectible names we know about and discuss so much here on the Forum. :)

Find the reason as why it's below market, go with your gut if it doesn't feel right walk away, that feeling won't go away. Even meet at a shop which verify it's authenticity and it's not stolen. If it's to good to be true, there will be something, I suppose how much is your piece of mind worth?

It's being advertised on a popular local online platform. I live on a small island, so will be very reassured if it has been bought locally, and might be able to even contact the AD if I deem necessary.

I will have a look and report back!

Obviously any other pointers or thoughts very welcome!

Hi is this the one on Jersey Insight? I live in Jersey and have seen this advertised for quite a few weeks. I would say it was genuine. The price seems about right for a private sale depending which site your comparing to. Ask the seller if he bought it locally, if so it's got to be Hettich. Good lick anyway. By the way have you checked out the 3 posted on JT today a Speedmaster and Seamaster. Both look good for the money

cheers

Yes, indeed! I thought it seemed good value compared with the few comparables I've seen online. What would retail have been the year before; c.£5,000?

Good to meet another Bean!

I'm not quite sure in what world you think this would be possible?
Maybe it's in the nature of the smallish community I live in, but I don't doubt at all that I could ask my local AD to give a view as to authenticity and they would oblige, particularly if the seller was alongside and obviously consenting. Equally, lots of other non-authorised but nevertheless specialist watch dealers would certainly be happy to help, whether at a cost or for free. Confirming it's not stolen probably more something for the police, but equally achievable I'm sure.

What is JT?

It's Alive Jim, i believe if you went to a watch shop which focuses on pre-owned for a fee they would run the serial number and confirm authenticity.
Jersey times/trader ?a local paper ? at a guess ,as it seems they both are fortunate to live on that very beautiful island

Buying a hundred quid seiko in these circumstances i could handle. But buying something at that price without knowing the seller, having any come back? And not seeing it before the posty asks you to sign the box? What are these now? 8 grand 9 grand more? I'd choose option 2 and walk through a minefield with the cash blindfold either that or go to a nice shop for one. If its tempting you because its a few grand cheaper than most. And being sold by a bloke on a council house estate in Burnley or the like. Then i would go view it in person with a few burly mates and leave the cash at home just in case.

Probably a bit more than 5k. Got them on Chrono24 ranged 4200-5800 but most are dealers so you have to take into account sellers fees, warranty and profit so would say 3.5k a good deal. Think we are the only 2 Jersey beans on the forum! Unless there's any more of you out there?

Probably nothing of course -- different CNC set-up -- but, to me, the engraving on the right looks a little less professional than that on the left.

The lugs look bent too.

Like its doing the splits for a 28mm squeezing in rather than 24.

I once had a parnis marine militaire and it was very convincing. It wouldnt take too much to badge one up in one of these 'specialist' factories. Cant help thinking id go to the panerai shop.

via chrono 24 you have some protection if purchased via trusted check out, bought two via C24 myself with no problem.

Payment via Trusted Checkout

The amount due is paid to an escrow account, where it is kept safe until you have your dream watch in your hands. Only then is the money released to the seller. Trusted Checkout is free for you as a buyer. All listings that offer payment processing via Trusted Checkout are marked accordingly

As a dealer via chrono24 trusted checkout means I don't get paid until the customer is happy. I have never needed to raise any issues (or had issue raised against me), but if the dealer has good feedback (collected by Chrono24, quite independently) it is rare hear about problems via their platform.

The also demanded tax information before I joined as a dealer, just to double check I was legit. I was quite impressed.

To the OP. If at all unsure, walk away

Agreed. Me Scott? In the instance above i would turn my collar to the wind and so would you. ;-)...im confident in that. It needs no persuance. It would be fool hardy to seek complicated resolve to save a grand.

Good Night Chaps.

Anyone bought it yet ?

Can't help thinking if it was such a good deal it would have gone by now.
'Watch' this space!

This is, of course, a time in history when people might well start selling luxury items at a price intended to generate cash quickly, and on the other side when people might generally be hesitant to splash cash on indulgent trinkets.

I am investigating!
