One of the many joys of vintage watch collecting is being driven round the bend by what had initially seemed an easy bit of research, for example today’s 1950s steel-cased Cadillac, Swiss-made and another of the USA bundle.

One look at the script wordmark and you’re thinking it’s an L. Wachter Company Inc. import into the States. But on a closer look, the wordmark isn’t quite the same and then you see that the balance cock of its generic 17j ST 1686 movement is stamped with UZC, the US Import Code for Panto Watch Co (sorry guys, the jokes were all done back in 2008 ) who may have had a connection with Gunzinger Freres of Switzerland but who, in turn, don’t list a Cadillac brand amongst their nearly 200 registered names. And finally, the bridge is signed by Enzo Watch Ltd which has no readily discernible connection to any of ‘em.

And then you think, sod it, I can’t be ar$ed with any more rabbit holes for the moment.

Nightshiftin with my new watch bought from the classifieds on this very forum. My first foray into Russian watches! Looks great and keeping good time. Very happy with it. Awaiting a colour coded blue and white NATO for it which should finish it off nicely. Hopefully!
