Hi, it's Paul here from Melbourne Australia.  Just recently pulled out a box of watches that were in a cupboard - going to get them all working hopefully!  I'm an absolute watch newbie!  I like working on cars and so decided to have a go at fixing these watches (Youtube, internet and forums are a great help!) while in COVID-19 lockdown.  I have replaced a battery in one Cartier and one Longines so far - both working now!  I have a bright torch, magnifying glass and a very cheap set of jewellers screwdrivers.  I was very careful with the Cartier as it had six tiny screws holding the back case on!  My eyes aren't as good as they used to be!!!

Good to have you on the Forum. One thing I would suggest is that you upgrade your screwdrivers to a good quality set.:)

lol that's a fluke choosing that username :notworthy:

when you say quality set, can you quantify that for us plebs - £15 set or there abouts, or, the professional jewellers set type for oodles more kahunas?

This question about what constitutes good quality screwdrivers has come up a number of times on the Forum, @nursegladys, but because I myself do not undertake watch repairs or restoration, I have not made a note of the various makes and prices of screwdrivers. If you go to the relevant section of the Forum, you can post a request for that information; I am sure that you will receive useful posts giving the relevant information.:)

Started using Intestinalworm way back in 1998 - I'm the intimate friend you didn't know you had!!!  Good point re screwdrivers - used the cheapos to remove the back from one of the Cartier watches (those screws are tiny!) - can see though how a good set would be a worthwhile investment - might need to get more watches first!
