I fine watch, and presumably a fine family, I have to lock my watches in a box and bury it in the garden when half of the bricey clan visit!

That design of bottom bracket is a right royal PITA.

When I bought the bike, in 2006, the Shimano "Hollowtech" and "Octalink" system was very good - the bearings were embedded within the bottom bracket shell and it was very hard for much and moisture to find their way in. I got 26000 trouble-free miles out of it over the next 7 years. Then some careless driver decided to overtake me whilst turning left. I was lucky that I was uninjured - I didn't even come off the bike - but the contact made bent the crank. In the intervening period, Shimano redesigned the system and in the 13000 miles I've done since replacing it (at the driver's expense) I must have changed the bearings at least 4 times. The last time, I put expensive Hope bearings in there, but they have recently started creaking again, so out with the lithium grease.

My "friend" the careless driver so articulately implicated himself in the subsequent correspondence with the police (he complained that I was harassing him when I sent him the bill) that he ended up with points on his licence and a fine, after a collision with no witnesses.
