Watch winder advice.

I have a mix of automatic and quartz watches. With the automatics when I am not wearing I usually pull out the crown and put it away until I wear again, as this may be some time.  I have a new automatic Seiko Alpinist, and although this is not my "daywear" watch, I do plan on wearing it at weekends. I have heard that in the long term its not advisable to manually wind a watch, as pulling the screw in crown in and out often is not great practice. I do have a watch winder I got years ago that I have never used.

I was wondering how long to use the watch winder. I know with this watch you cannot overwind, but how long every day should I turn the machine on ?

Any advice on general winding and watch winders ? Sorry if this has been covered before.
