You have only $1000 (USD/€/£/whatever), you won't be able to save a penny more for the foreseeable future to put toward watches and you have nothing you can sell to add to it, but that $1000 you do have specifically for watches (play along, don't get cute with investing to have more later).

You have to choose five watches, all brand new (no reason I can think of for this so just play along). What are you buying?

I always like having variety of dial colors, but yours can all be the same doesn't matter. Use any retail source you want. I chose Amazon because it includes free shipping so I don't have to calculate anything extra. Mine...

1. Black dial, Bulova Lunar Pilot $600 Amazon

2. Blue dial, Casio Marlin $50 Amazon

3. White dial, Citizen Chandler Panda $200 Amazon

4. Dress, Orient Bambino $120 Amazon (pretty much any of them)

5. Digital, Casio Casino Royale $30 Amazon

OK:

1. New CW Sealander auto (£700 on bracelet, but there's always a voucher knocking around, so effectively £600) - all round daily wearer

Sealander

2. A pretty blue Orient Bambino which I've seen for £85

3. A Casio Waveceptor for £160 - swimmable world time RC travel watch

4. A Luch one-hander (MeisterSinger substitute) for £92

5. Some cheap thing for £60 as a rufty-tufty beater - might be able to get a Boctok for that?

Started in exactly the same place, CW first, then work out what to do with the rest. So..

1: CW Sealander, white dial & bracelet. The expensive one wants to be a bit of a go anywhere option. £600 with voucher (got the code in my inbox now so definitely counts)

2: The obvious budget blue face diver - Orient Mako 2. currently £129.19 on Amazon:

3: Geckota P-01 - black face dressy-ish, currently on clearance on Geckota at £149:

https://www.geckota.com/geckota-p-01-small-seconds-automatic-watch-end-of-line

4: Pulsar PM3127X1 - ticks the military and chrono boxes, and olive green version gives another colour to the collection @ £69.99:

https://smile.amazon.co.uk/Pulsar-Military-Style-Chronograph-PM3127X1/dp/B07KTF4Y4F/ref=pd_rhf_dp_p_img_4?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=137TJK62MGFFQKEVGMSY

5: Casio WV200E - radio control to keep all the others right and a 200m waterproof beater when required. £51.71:

Total spend £999.89

Hmm good question. Interesting to see approaches here. I'd want a nice all rounder, a nice slightly more sporty diver, an office watch, a weekend/grocery run watch, and a beater/watch to wear jogging. For flexibility, I'd want to a tick off black dial, blue dial and white/silver dial. Also, so I don't have to spend the budget on new straps, I'd want a mix of metal, leather and fabric/rubber straps.

If we're allowed new but in sales then it would probably change depending on what bargains i could sniff out at the time. Currently I'd go:

1. Nice all rounder - Hamilton khaki scuba auto - £485

https://www.ernestjones.co.uk/webstore/d/9192662/hamilton+khaki+scuba+men's+stainless+steel+bracelet+watch/

2. Nice diver - Seiko prospex SRPD21K1 - £255

https://www.ernestjones.co.uk/webstore/d/3511286/seiko prospex+blue+dial+automatic+diver's+watch/

3. Office watch - this Tissot quartz - £140

https://www.ernestjones.co.uk/webstore/d/4921380/tissot+men's+stainless+steel+strap+watch/

4. Weekend/grocery run - Timex Waterbury chrono on fabric strap - £89

https://www.ernestjones.co.uk/webstore/d/4703316/timex+waterbury+men's+black+fabric+strap+watch/

5. Beater/jogging watch - Casio F91W - £9.99

All boxes ticked with £21.01 to spare.
