Thanks....I hate it!

A client (a pain in the arris client that always turns his books in late, pays late, has a million questions that I never charge for dealing with) just dropped in to collect his records.

He said "you like watches don't you? I picked this up at the auction (pronounced occ-shun) for you, to say thanks."

Now I feel guilty for being annoyed (justifiably so) with him for so long, but also have what I believe to be the ugliest watch in the world.

I have been suitably gracious and thankful, and I do appreciate the thought and gesture, but it's going straight into the giveaways section.

Anyone want a chocolate Sandoz?

Ha ha, it does look like something you would go for, got a bit of a microbrand diver look to it. At least the guy thought of you and got you something suitable however much you dislike it. A strange predicament that one!

When he says "auction" does he mean India via ebay?

quite like it though actually.

Normally, I'd assume the same, but this....erm....gentleman (read Fen-monster) would need a map, guidebook, clear illustrations in crayons and a team of very patient highly trained IT specialists to turn a laptop around to face him, let alone turn it on.

What is it though? Quartz, handwinding? Sandoz was a doyen of the Argos catalogue and other mail order joints in the 1970s. From Argos, 1978.

I really want to defend it, but, er, it's tough. On the other hand, it's the thought that counts.

The dial looks hand-painted, badly, but it has the ‘T Swiss made T’ legend, which is interesting. That’s the best I can say about it.

Next time he comes over get one of the 8 kids to crouch down behind him, then push him over and ask him what he was thinking

If I had it I think a few taps of my hammer could improve it

:hmmm9uh:hmm.. no. Even if it was slightly flatter with joyous patina.. it would still be horrific.

I think we should all pay money to vote on someone else to win it.

Nice one Bricey! - A real step down from the French Cake Watch (FCW) to the Chocolate Bar Watch (CBW)  - I'd say mod it with a brown dial & make it the CPW (Cow Pat Watch)

Valves? I've seen some incredible watches on here, but that gets the prize. On a clear night, can it pick up Radio Luxembourg?

I think you've hit the nail on the head. It seems there's a thriving "Henri Sandoz & Fils" restoration facility, run by our friends in Mumbai. Here's another fine example of their work.

Well...it's a little like saying...

'you've been at home lately with your family to isolate as you had Covid so I given you Norovirus so you can spend more time at home with your family'

I think we've all been in that situation where someone knows you like watches and they hand a watch they think may be valuable...and one look at it you know it is utter cr4p.

Horological floccinaucinihilipilification...for want of a better word
