I don't know anything about Hublot watches but I do like the look of this 2012 44mm automatic which has just had a full service by Hublot. I tried uploading a photo off chrono24 without any success.

Any opinions good or bad most welcome.

For me, Hublot watches remind me of a time growing up when I saw in a newspaper Jimmy Nail referred to as a sex symbol.

Usually with a male celeb regarded as a set symbol, even as a straight man, I can see that there is something that would appeal to those that are interested in another man's looks, but with Jimmy Nail, I really couldn't see it.

Usually with a watch, even if it's not for me I can appreciate what it is that might appeal to another watch lover,  but with Hublot, I really can't.

Sorry for bringing Jimmy into this thread. And for being a  it of a Debbie Downer on Hublot.

Not sure that they are RO homages. After all, the word "hublot" means "porthole"  --  than the RO is definitely styled on a porthole

The kindest thing I would say about this watch is that opportunistic muggers will think you got it in Argos.

Cognoscenti will think you are flaunting your wealth.

They do, though, have a following  --  so people must like them.

Be aware though that the HUB4100 movement is actually an ETA 7753 (source: WatchBase).

Well, I wouldn’t but then I’m not you. If it floats your boat, lights your candle and generally stirs your horological loins, then you should bite the bullet, pull the trigger, and generally jump all over that bad boy, then hope you bond with it and don’t have to flip it as a catch and release after the honeymoon period.

(I tried to get as many stupid watchie type clichés into that sentence as I could think of)

PS. Don’t try to bite the bullet and pull the trigger at the same time. The results are generally quite predictable and rather unfortunate.

Nothing wrong with the brand and if you like that watch then go for it. Does not seem to be much love for them on here but it would be on your wrist so only your opinion really matters.

I would imagine that anyone with OCD might find the screws on the bezel annoying as they are all at different angles.

Given the price of the watch, I tend to think that is part of the design, as to have them symmetrically allinged is not a difficult job.

What's not to like

If it was £62.70 I'd buy it to annoy folk.

These watches are like the "Rolex Dictator".

There's a market for them.

Ignore most of the negative comments on here. Most can’t even afford anything higher than a Parnis or Seiko and they wouldn’t know a decent watch if it hit them in the face :p

Actually ignore most of that…the watch in question really isn’t one of the better Hublot designs and for that money I would go for a higher end Omega diver with a master co-axial movement.

I got my Hublot after the Rolex Daytona and two AP Royal Oak’s, all with six months. It was the only one Xupes had in stock and after having more traditional style watches in the collection, I wanted something more high tech. Read up on the UNICO movement as it really is something truly in-house and special.   LVMH purchased Zenith a while ago to get their technical knowledge of movements and it shows in their in-house Tag’s and Hublot.

You are looking at double your budget though, which I appreciate probably makes my suggestion useless. I just don’t want someone to purchase something at such a high price point and then realise it’s one of the lower end models and becoming outdated.

Here’s mine:

I wonder if it is deliberate ?? my ocd would get the better of me and I'd have to get them lined up properly.

Having read up a bit this morning it would appear that the movements Hublot use can be found in watches selling for a fraction of the price. They also don't seem to sell well either on the second hand market. I do like the watch though because its different which appeals to me like my Frank Muller, Meistersinger and Cartier.

I may get a Hublot at some point if I find one at a bargain basement price.

Thank you for all the responses and particularly those who admit having owned one albeit toned down versions.

I will go back to my original quest for a watch which is as common as muck with a better pedigree but an inflated price.

I for one fit that description quite well. I couldn't afford a Hublot (without selling pretty much every watch I currently own) and I probably don't appreciate true quality (especially if it hit me in the face, which would seem a risky thing to do with a quality timepiece, even one as hardy looking as a Hublot).

My point though would be that personally, if a windfall allowed me the opportunity to buy a Hublot I still very much doubt that I would as they hold no appeal for me at all.

But that should have no impact or bearing on @chas g's decision making process, as any other posters view on the pointlessness of acquiring microbrand dive watches wouldn't likely deter me in that quest.

But those that hate a generic diver are still welcome to voice their opinions, as are those who have less than positive opinions on any other brand, be they Hublot or Parnis.

All imvho.

I agree with the last sentence of your post

Everyone should be entitled to voice their opinion, good or bad as long as it is done in  a civil manner. A less than positive response can be just as useful to the originator as a glowing review.

I listen to other people's opinion but at the end of the day I make my own decision.

The concept of civility is lost on us yanks, so I appreciate you guys' ability to look past and forgive the blunt nature of my posts.
