Cheer me up and spend my money

After 3 days of significant increase  pain I've had a bit of a wobble and am now in the bloody hospital for assessment to a presumed reaction to the heroin patches that I'm on  which is somewhat depressing.

However, staying positive, the watches I've decided to clear out over the next week or two give me a budget, and my preferred collection structure gives me a set of criteria to shop to, so who is up for throwing in some suggestions to fit the following:

1) Total budget between £3,500 and £4,000.

2) Total watches required 4.

- 2 Manual Wind

- 1 No Date Diver

- 1 Automatic of any flavour

The budget can be one special watch and 3 budget picks, or four £800ish watches, or basically split however you see fit.

3) Would not rule out buying new, but in order to push the budget I generally buy pre-owned, but do expect it to be excellent condition and with box's and docs.

4) I'm obviously not averse to a microbrand, but would like at least 1 or 2 of the watches to be recognised brands.

You can suggest your pick of 4, or just a watch or two that I should probably have on my list to consider.

Pictures and/or links always welcome and appreciated.

I think I'm currently leaning towards 1 or 2 higher end items and then some fillers, might even blow the whole budget on a grail (such as one of the two below) and leave the other slots open to be temporarily filled with the cheapo's for which I am renowned until the budget builds back up.

Potential Grail 1

My EBAY watch list is sitting at 43, so give me some more to ponder and add to the list.

Hope you get sorted soon pal, I can’t imagine how it must be to be in such constant pain for such a long time.:(

I couldn’t begin to talk you out of the Autavia, it’s a beauty.

I share your preference if a no-date diver but can’t get this chappie out of my head and it remains high. on my “when I grow a pair and buy another watch” list. They are available in grown up colours too.

PS. Both of these grails are the fault of patrons of this fine forum. You know who you are and if I ever point you out to Mrs B you should both be very afraid.

PPS. Brands I do not currently own (and in some cases have yet to have owned) that would keep me to my "one watch per brand" rule include; Nomos, Breitling, Rado, Mido, Longines, Bell & Ross, Union, Stowa, Fortis, Tag Heuer, Baume & Mercer, Sinn, IWC and Siduna (thanks a bunch @it'salivejim!).

Two that are really testing my "one per brand" rule are the Aqua Terra (already have a vintage Seamaster) and a Black Bay (despite having my Glamour).

The Doxa (and the devil diver from Buliva that I mentally categorise closely together) have never tickled my intrigue in pictures, but maybe I should give one a go precisely as they are different dive options from the type I normally try to keep some proper variety in my boxes.

Sorry to hear about the pain you are suffering & hope you get some relief pronto - I have been forced to list my RLG Oceanfarer for sale due a bit of a cash-flow crisis, (some of which you are already aware) so it is currently in Classified Ads - Obviously a "budget" option, but ticks lots of boxes for you in terms of being an auto / diver / no date / size - All depends on whether you like it of course?

I should try one at some point, it's just that there is something about the 12 that feels off and I can't put my finger on it.

At this point there's still a lot of moving parts, I've not even listed the bunch I'm selling yet, added to the fact that until I've settled on 3 I'll not know the budget for #4, if you know what I mean, so I fear I might not be ready quick enough for you (or sure if I'd be going that route for a while yet).

Have you ventured it on to ebay after the trauma's or have they left you too scarred to risk dealing with the bad punters?

I hope the doctors can bring you some relief soon, sorry that you are suffering so much.

This probably won't be to your taste, but trying to help  . Anyway I really like the look of the Vaer A12 Dirty Dozen homage, it isn't a direct replica, but at 36mm only a little larger than the original watches and has a hand wound ETA 7001 movement

I do like the look of Vaer, there is a white auto field watch on ebay, but I like the look of their Tropic dive watches best.

Hope your pain gets under control soon.Take a look at Nomos or any German brands.

Got a few Nomos, both auto and manual on the watch list.

Talking of German brands, how about the Stowa Partitio, it is a sensible 37mm and available in black or white dial with manual or automatic Sellita movements:

Like that, have one in my list.

Given my recent order I think you need a figurehead for your collection. 1960’s JLC Memovox. Then spend the rest on three microbrand watches.

A stunner, and I'm not going to rule out vintage, but am leaning towards 2000 onwards.

Not as obvious a brand, but this is tempting.

Now you mention it, I remember you pointed out feeling a bit odd about the 12 (though I still couldn't really get what you were saying?) - The RLG is on the bay, but you are right my recent experiences there have left me a bit wary, to say the least - I'd always offer bits here first & price them differently to the bay - People here are friends after all & I'm happy to keep the price down as much as possible knowing the watch or whatever will go to a good home & to someone who will appreciate it more ...

I've managed to find a Vario Empire Gunmetal Tuxedo Handwound that might well be one of the manuals, the Stowa (above), or maybe a Hemel might take the second hw spot.

Should use around £800-1,000 of the budget.

I figure leaving £250 for a no date diver will give me lots of options in the microbrand world.

So £2-2.5k left for what would be my second highest priced watch purchase.

unlikely to find an Autavia of Top Time with that.

Real mixed bag for the big purchase (in terms of my spending values).

Nomos do a couple of beautiful auto's that would be immaculate at that budget.

Aqua Terra are in play at that budget. So to Black Bay's.

I like the Superocean Heritage from Breitling that might be reached at the price.

@Briceythe pain management thing can be hit and miss. My wife suffered with pelvic pain, with no underlying cause. She eventually found someone to frazzle the nerves carrying the pain signals meaning the pain stopped given there were no nerves to transmit the signals.

See link it's not the people we used but a cursory review of the website suggests it's similar https://mayfieldclinic.com/pe-rf_ablation.htm

Thanks for that , I have spinal stenosis and suffer with arthritis in my right hand due to an injury partially severing my right hand 6 years ago . I suffer daily . I take strong painkillers , amytryptylyne and still no relief . GP's are a waste of time . I have had 5 nerve root injections and epidural jabs . No joy at all . I have come to live with the pain . I am looking at alternative treatments as I type

I'm sorry to hear of your health problems, hope you get well soon.

I don't really know you, haven't been here long, so just throwing some thoughts down. Gota bit carried away in the end, just threw them in and let you decide kind of thing.

I know you were dubious about the Nocronos but in the end it is different enough to catch the eye and you'd get used to reading the time.

I included the Bremont and some cheaper watches to balance that. Plus the CMXI which is still on kickstarter.

With your collection I would go for the 1 watch route and get one of your grails. You must have had enough experience now in the microbrand diver department now to have scratched that itch! But above all I hope your condition improves soon and I wish you all the best,

Sorry to hear of your problems @Bricey hope you get the necessary pain relief tout de suite.

I'll just throw this beauty out there...

OW P-101 - uses an upgraded regulated ETA 2824-2, currently £756.94 (the price they state if you select £GBP as your currency), including all taxes and shipping, direct from OW in Switzerland (ow-watch.ch).

Hope that brings you a little cheer

Get well soon
