I am missing Running Man (Andy) for his acidic wit and Martin (The NY firefighter who's forum name I've forgotten) for being very nice. Others too...................

I agree (it's Limey by the way). I would also add rondeco and larry (from Calgary). Hopefully hakim will be back some day too.

That's freaky as I was only thinking about Hakim yesterday :(

I've been thinking a lot about this recently - I miss Raketakat's postings the most, but it's a shame that so many members have left/migrated over the past couple of years :(

It reminds me of when the landlord retired from my first proper local - a great send off but the pub was never quite the same...

I miss Raketakat's postings the most,

+1

Ian still posts from time-to-time...but not nearly as much as I'd like. :(

And who remembers namaste (pieter)? Not been seen for nearly 3 years. :(

I miss a few too, including Limey and Marius (how the daughters I wonder?), but most I miss Hakim. We have a mutual friend in HK and I heard through him that the Hakster is doing ok and things are ok for him now but whilst hes keeping his head above water hes not about to return anytime soon. Thats a shame in my book, hes a top bloke :)

Hello...

There are several reasons that I don't post any more. Firstly, my interest in watches has waned to the point of almost complete indifference. Yeah, I'll look at and appreciate a nice watch if I see one one somebody's wrist or if I'm passing a shop window. The difference is, I no longer desire these watches and I choose to wear my cheap Timex digital most of the time. Even on Fridays!

Secondly, I've been going through a lot of personal problems recently which has involved a decline in my mental health and the near break up of my family. It's been a harrowing time, not knowing what my marital situation will be in two or three months time and I walk on eggshells around my family home, swinging from highs to lows. I've taken a break from competetive running as this was starting to become an obsession and in turn consume me which didn't help the issues I'm facing. Hopefully, things will be OK and we both want it to work out.

Thirdly, this forum has gone from a unique and friendly environment into a cliquey love-in. This is nobody's fault and I'm not having a go at anybody in particular but (for example) when you get thread titles containing references to in jokes between members, it's enough to put off long standing members, let alone potential new ones who may want to join in. I feel there's a hierarchy going on that's crept in by the back door. Who knows, it might just be me? Also, there's only so much one can say about watches. Everything after that just turns into a pissing contest or a mutual admiration society, depending on your point of view. I can't find the energy or compulsion to write "ooh, that's a nice watch" any more, simply because I don't care.

There's still one or two members who I stay in touch with and the majority of members on here are decent friendly blokes who I have all the time in the world for. There have been a few members who get my back up but the less said about that, the better. I still look in from time to time, just to see if everyone's ok but for now at least, I'm off.

May I wish everybody good health, happiness, great times and a big thankyou to Roy for giving us this forum in the first place! :)

Love,

A.

PS: This forum p*sses on that pile of f*ck*ng **** at 'the other side!'

I think as a community of like minded members it's a great place to be..................of course there are cycles of activity and that is the same with all fora. Some people may feel they need to leave, but there will always be a core of members whom do stay, and long may it continue..............life is cyclic, it ebbs and flows, new members come in and some leave.........some just make themselves a pest like MMMEEEEEEEEE

When we are greeted by St Peter at the pearly gates, we can say with hand on heart that :rltb: was a bl**dy great forum and we shall enter free of worries and sin.....cos we have posted our sinning....some more than others

There's also a recession on!! Not as many watches are being bought; people are more concerned about keeping their jobs than posting on a forum. It's not just here but all forums at the present time, just reflecting the national gloom!

I really don’t see that – or maybe I do and just ignore it, I don’t know. There are topics I can’t be bothered with and skip them. Likewise, there are one or two people I’m not keen on. All of that is just the same in real life – you can’t expect to like every single aspect of a forum.

Interest in all things wax and wane. I have fished all my life but have taken years out at a time when other things become more important. Fishing is important to me at the moment but on the other hand I now have no interest in rallying – I may do in the future, I really don’t know.

This is just a watch forum after all. Andrew I hope you stick around and get what enjoyment you can out of it. More importantly, I hope everything else in your life works out for the best for you.

Having a young family of 3, and various other reasons, I haven't been able to afford a watch (of anything other than a few quid or a trade!) for a long time. However, I've also been here for a long time, and have, what I consider to be, good friendships with many members here.

I enjoy the social aspect to this forum, and the banter I've enjoyed with old, and new, friends, over the years.

It has changed, but it is still intrinsically the same place, I prefer to concentrate on the positives, and ignore the negatives.

The last 2 years for me have been horrendous, from a health point of view. Many here have, and continue to, support me. That has meant a great deal to me, and I, aty least in that respect, am glad of the forum. There are several people I miss, but I know they will most likely return eventually, as many have and will continue to do so.

Vive la forum :D

Hi everyone,

not posted for a while, apologies, but health probs have kept me away. Life's a **** sometimes.

I've missed the forum :rltb: and talking to you, well most of you, Seeing this post has encouraged me to say hello again, hope I'm still welcome.

Still managed to hang on to our host and buy watch kit from my sickbed though. I know what my priorities are, ill or not.

Hope everyone is ok ?

Kind Regards,

Dave ....................

For various reasons I have little time to post these days (has Mac overtook me yet?) but I do try to read every post.

A lot of things to ponder in this thread.

Have not been here as long as a lot of you. Good bunch of people all of you. I find a lot still browse and pop out communications at times but lost the spirit to post or/and the love of watches for a moment in time.

Having owned a very large forum at one time not watch related I sold it and all related addy's. Forums go through phases, saw it over and over. Staff breaking off to make a competing forum because something ticked them, admins conspiring for take over, cliques which in a large forum was hardly noticeable. Staff member, members posing as the opposite sex, egos and on and on, seen it all lived it all why I sold it all

It was the staff member which was what blew me away had us all fooled. There were more interesting things pop up, the internet hold peoples info a long time, ah yes sexy talk with a guy, damn :)

Edit: Come to think of it that was the very last time I used MSN Messenger, never again lol

Forae[ums] like :rltb: serve one very useful purpose - they provide those with a "minority" or "niche" interest with a meeting point where they can discuss, meet up with (virtually) and banter to and from like minded folks.

I've been a member of or moderator or owner around six or so forum over the years. Without exception there will always develop a core of posters who eventually end up as "Mainstay" posters who can be relied upon to have enough experience to offer valid help and opinions to newbies on request. These same folks will also lend virtual support to any member going through a problem patch, and will often do so unreservedly for "friends they've never met" in person, and for things totally unrelated to the subject matter of the forum :D

BUT! we should never forget that "cameraderie" and "banter" can be seen by newbies as a barrier, they can feel they are unable to break into the circle they perceive already exists.

I'm currently a member here (obviously! ) and also on a specialist dance forum where my technical dance knowledge is requested from time to time. And I'm on Knut's Timex forum for Ticka Timex' watches.

Is that enough?? Oh yes!
