My dear friend Wrench sometimes usurps me when I post songs in this fabulous thread, but I'm hoping that this one might surprise him....one of my favourite songs which I had always thought was an original by Roberta Flack and then later murdered by the Fugees...was sung by Frank Sinatra...with a change of gender...

Frayed knot m'friend. That's a version by Perry Como (originally 1973) - check the sleeve notes on the YouTube description.

Here's the 1971 original by Lori Lieberman, apparently written in tribute to Don McLean.
