How To Put A Hole In Carbon Strap?

Recommended Posts

I've just received a nice Hirsch Carbon/leather/rubber strap. I have slim wrist and need to put one extra hole in it. What is the best method? I was thinking of starting off with a small awl then widening the hole, if necessary, with a hot pin to melt through. But I don't know how the carbon fibre layer on top would react to this.

Taking Jason's comments into account, I suggest you drill it with a small drill bit the same diameter as the other holes. After you have done that, heat up the drill bit with a flame or similar temperature heat source and push it through the hole from the back side of the strap (not with the drill). Twist it slightly as you withdraw it, so the raw fibres will be drawn into the hole and seal from the heat. If this sounds complicated or scary, don't do it.

Later,

William
