Hooray, someone has mentioned HMT watches. If you look back over past topics on this forum, you may find a topic by myself that details the story of HMT. Unfortunately, there was a blip on the forum a while back and it may be that my topic has now disappeared. If you do a bit of hunting around online, you should yourself be able to piece together the HMT story.

I can certainly tell you that HMT watches are good value for money, and I personally have a certain affection for this Indian company. The company was still making inexpensive but perfectly decent mechanical watches until quite recently, and they may still be in production. Like Timez Own, I have a few of these watches - all hand-wind- and they are nicely proportioned and straightforward. I reckon that Indian mechanical watches make a good basis for a collection.

My Rajat which is an automatic but lucky for me my dad who is retired spends 5 months a year over in India rather than the cold Uk (who can fault him) so i gave him the Rajat to get fixed over in India for me also going to ask him to get me a genuine Pilot but older one rather than new style

Hi Guys

Me too… I have a few HMT watches. Not bad for any money. I think they are basically Citizen Movements. If the Indian’s can make precision things (watches)….what about supposedly 1st world countries like Australia???

Better be quite or the Ministry for Truth will be on my door step. All ISP’s in Australia have to give the government lists of what websites each citizen visits…

But great watches, nice stainless cases. I have no experience with the quartz ones.

They made them but it seems no-one apart from WIS nut -jobs like us wanted to buy them, I believe the Indian government has pulled the plug on them and when I was in India last year I couldn't buy a new one, the locals I spoke to couldn't understand why I wanted one!

That red seconhand certainly stands out on your Pilot

Yes it does, as I think the red stitching, but unfortunatley I am not a fan of colours on watches in general, but it was so cheap I thought I'd give it a go.
