Change of ownership over on the dark side

Recommended Posts

I saw that, John. While TZ can have it's 'moments' and is very intolerant of newbies that ask the wrong question, it is a good forum. Without Eddie steering, I think there's a risk it will change. Fingers crossed...

I was amazed when I saw that yesterday, seems out of character for Eddie although I understand the reasons why he has made the decision.

The company taking over is the same one that took over WatchUseek about a year ago and I think the general opinion was that that move was for the worse. There was certainly a mass exodus of users

Let's see if the "Eddie style" is still possible under new ownership.

You only have to look at the travesty that they made of WUS to know that it won't. When serious discussion of watches and movements is put second to the business interests of the advertisers, what chance is there of the forum maintaining it's integrity. First Timezone and then WUS .... The Internet has changed and not for the better....

Yes,they are not friendly as here and especially - you can`t compare Eddie and Roy at all.But everubody has the freedom to choose where to spend the spare time.I made my choice long time ago. Cheers

I'm a member over there but don't post much. I much prefer it here & have been a member here since the forum started (I think!). I met Eddie a couple of years ago at the funeral of one time member Mr Crowley (real name Paul). He was a fellow  Leeds watch enthusiast whom I met him through this forum, eventually though he decided that TZ-UK was the place for him where he became a very prolific poster. Eddie was a gent on a very sad/upsetting day & I wish him, his forum & of course his wife all the very best for the future :)

I belong to TZ but don't post much. I actually find it too big. I just don't want to spend the amount of time needed to go through everything. I just check out some of the new posts every other day or so.

It's interesting about concerns from members about advertisers. The CW forum members had similar concerns when the company themselves took it over, but they dish out some almighty stick to CW when in the mood without any interference - the company seeming to understand such feedback is actually a good thing. So it can work.

For as long as I can remember WUS has been a censorship-heavy car crash, in the brand-sponsored forums anyway, so I haven't noticed much change there. Although I only use it now for the Sales section and to read the Feedback section for the 'deals gone wrong' threads. It's a guilty pleasure reading about how someone thought it was a good idea to bank wire $3000 to a member from Venezuela with 3 posts, and then expect to receive a brand-new-with-tags Submariner. I shouldn't laugh but the stupidity astounds me :laugh:

TZ is very different from WUS and if they start imposing rules and heavy-handed moderation there they may find themselves stuck with a silent forum. This place might pick up a bit though :wink:

Sorry to hear about his wife and wish her well. As for TZ, I enjoyed it's almost anything goes and light moderation, until I was banned for something I didn't do.

Some of us have been around a lot longer and can remember when both Timezone and WUS weren't subservient to their commercial sponsors and then they were great forums. Timezone, when Chuck Maddox was there, was an amazing source of high quality information on watch history, as was WUS afterwards but now it's very difficult to find anywhere where such a group of really knowledgeable enthusiasts are to be found and offer the advice they did.

Watch forums then had a different ethic, before the overall commercialism of the Internet when they eventually just became money earners for their owners. Times change inevitably but not always for the better....

I like both forums and the differences between them. Find that here is a lot more relaxed both in topic and members whereas TZ can be entertainingly confrontational. There are however two members there that should be banned as a lot of their posts are not really acceptable on any forum. The worry for me is TZ will soon start to change and become very sponsor or advert led which would be a shame.

Anyway - Roy, don't you dare.:angry::laugh:
