Change to sales section

Recommended Posts

An application is currently being written to incorporate a classifieds section into the forum software.

This in my opinion would be brilliant and enable people to just click on Buy it now to purchase. It would instantly show item as sold etc. Make offers and Auction listings, also trades would hopefully be implemented. This would replace the sales section.

Your thoughts are welcome on this.

my only concern is, would this make things easier for dealers just on here to buy?

not trying to be negative, just got a bee in my bonnet about people on TWF purely to buy a without contributing in any way, there are a few

No it would be the same, the exact same member rules would apply.

How would payment be made Roy? Or would items be marked as sold subject to payment?

Maybe up to the member selling, if by paypal it could be instant or a promise to transfer by bank transfer after clicking to buy.

Personally, I like the way things are at the moment.  That new format looks a bit too cold and clinical to me.  The current system allows for more interaction and friendly banter while the items are up for sale, plus there are often really interesting little gems of information that come up before the sale is completed.  I don't come on here to access a glorified eBay, I think the interaction between members is what makes this such a great place, and that includes the sales section.

Just my 2p worth anyway

not keen it will take away the gentle trust and easy going nature, preventing members to in a friendly way rearrange the date of payment transfer and create a binding agreement at the touch of a button. You will achieve contracts via instantaneous communication which will take out the personal element between friends. It will assist sellers and therefore dealers. Think before you do this Roy. Fine if you want all members to be immediately bound without time to reflect, which as friends on here we all allow for.

Change is always a good thing, sounds quite a cool idea to me.

It also sounds a lot of work for such a low volume sales section... is it worth implementing a bit of a commission on sales?  I know Roy has squashed the idea before, but even a couple of percent on outright sales should keep the forum solvent and satisfied.

I'm curious as to how it would work for trades? Just an open reply box for watches offered up in swap?

I have to say I agree with Davey, but I think it may be worth a try.

Times change sometimes for the better sometimes not.

My feelings are in a state of flux on this the more I think about it.

It all looks and sounds nice and professional, but I dont really see the need.

I also like the ability to have discussion, post an offer, ask about trade possibilities etc.

Sounds like a good idea to me.

However, the devil is always in the details. Specialist tools like this really need to be smooth and easy to use. All too often they can be fiddly and annoying to use and thus out of ready use.

Additionally, is this a tool being developed purely for this site? If so, will it be maintained and bug fixed and is there a guarantee is will be (made to be) compatible with future versions of the Invision software?

As far as I can see nothing will change unless you want to buy. Posting on a sales thread is not permitted really so any questions etc will be by PM as usual. If you buy, the negotiation as to method and timescale of paying will be by pm again.

My only query would be relisting if the buyer changed their mind and would it be easily done.?

I servedmy time as as an maintenance  fitter andwas taught that if something is working ok Dont try and fix it,and have lived with that advice for all of   my working life and has seldom gone wrong  so why meddle with a sales/trade   system that is working  perfectly well ? Dont make sense  to me  but there you go thats only my opinion good luck       H:watch:
